Restaurant Review: Grill’d, Mount Lawley.

Grill’d

Ancient sediment. It’s what you have probably been living under if you’re unaware that there are ALL OUT BURGER WARZ taking place nightly in various hip suburbs throughout Perth.

Burger joints, all vying for a piece of your sandwich lovin’ dollar, are popping up everywhere, all trying to be the next tastiest thing and I’ve taken it upon myself to review the various vegetarian options they’re sporting. Hard life, hard life.

I had experienced a small sample of Grill’d joy on a trip to Melbourne long-ago, their claims of 100% vegan burger patties filled my heart with joy & jealousy at the time.

Namely because I knew such forward-thinking food outlets would never come to Perth. Pout. Internal frustration. Vague thoughts of moving to Melbourne. Deal with it.

NOT SO PERTHIES, NOT SO. Grill’d now exists smack-bang in Mt Lawley (next to Astor / Gelare). Winners.

So, Garden Goodness Burger:

Ingredients: Premium quality veggie pattie (vegan), beetroot, tasty cheese, avocado, salad, relish & herbed mayo.

The wholemeal bun thrills me, the pattie tastes a little smoky in the most delicious of ways and the beetroot adds a tiny bit of messy sweetness to the whole ordeal. The star of the show, however is the holy herbed mayo.

This stuff is INSANELY tasty and I’m not much of a mayo girl. If you order the chips, bypass the relish & go straight for the herbed mayo dipping sauce, you wont regret.

Overall, the burger is magnificent. So much so, that I literally ordered it THREE TIMES last week when I live about 35-40 minutes drive from Mount Lawley, so that’s serious business or addiction on my end.

I am rating it 4.5 / 5. It loses half a point due to my own fussiness, gourmet lettuce leaves aren’t my thing so I always eradicate them from my burger.

Dear Grill’d,

Exist South of the River in Perth and you’ve got yourself a guaranteed minimum earning of $11.50 per week. But it will probably be more like $80 per week, because I am just that keen on your Garden Goodness.

Anyone that wants to be my bestie can send me Grill’d gift vouchers (they have those!) in the mail. Go on!

Love,

Smitten by the Goodness-of-Gardens:

Thank you so much for posting this! My hubby and I went to the one in Melbourne on our honeymoon and loved it…we never would have known there was one in Perth if it wasn’t for you! I can’t wait to eat their fries, they are amazing!

    Hi Danielle!

That’s not a problem at all, I’m only too happy to share the Grill’d love because it means there is more chance of them opening up multiple stores in this here hungry town!

That would make me very happy 🙂

Do try the vege burgers as well one time when you stop by xx

  3. Wow, I’m so there. Why am I not there right now?

The words “veggie patty” fill me with dread… I’ve had one too many of those awful bland concoctions of peas and carrots and god knows what else mushed together and fried to buggery. I’m also not much of a mayo person like you, so your description of this burger is getting my nose twitching and my stomach grumbling.

I live in Northbridge. I must go here soon.

To be honest, I wasn’t that impressed by their veggie burgers. They were okay – I’d give it a 6/10 because the patty is a premade frozen thing. Maybe it’s because I don’t have the mayo though, sounds like it made the burger for you 🙂

Much prefer jus burgers in Leederville – they can make their chick pea burger vegan and they make all the patties from scratch – you can definitely taste the difference. They are a bit pricer though, but worth it!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting John!

I have tried and enjoyed Jus Burgers also… their panko pumpkin burger is DELISH! I may be overly swayed by the mayo to be honest, or maybe you just caught one of their patties on a bad day hehe!

    Review on Jus soon ;)!

I am so SO excited that Grill’d is finally here in Perth, however not so much that it’s arrival coincides with my detox…

Hey have to agree the burgers there are great!!! But thought I would let you know that their chips are not only NOT vegan they are also NOT vegetarian as they are cooked in beef tallow, just a heads up! I was devastated when I found this out as I do love grill’d chips

  8. Annette @ Wellness WA says:

Oh my gosh! Really hay?!?! That is such bad bad bad news 🙁 The chips are so delicious, and because they market their burger patties as being vegan! That is so ridiculous for them to cook them in their stores in cottonseed oil, but receive them from suppliers who pre-cook them in beef tallow. I’m so annoyed now! Thank you so much for letting us know! x

Update, Grill’d fries are now vegan! Maybe they got sick of all the angry vegetarians/vegans boycotting their stores. I love that these burgers are totally 100% vegan if you ask for them with no mayo and cheese. It’s so comforting, given that Hungry Jacks burgers have been confirmed to be non-vegetarian – the patties apparently contain cheese with animal rennet. Vegans get such a bad rap when eating out – I avoid the word vegan, I just pick the thing with the least animal products then ask for the rest to be eliminated. So much easier when the restaurant just makes vegan options completely visible for everyone to see before ordering.
