Beauty and Wellbeing Routine: Bonnie Doran, Fashion Blogger @ Bonnie Friday.

First up, briefly tell us a little bit about yourself!

I’m a fashion blogger, freelance journalist and law student from Perth, WA. Writing and fashion have always been my two passions, and now I am able to indulge them through the same avenue! My blog, Bonnie Friday focuses on mainly Western Australian designers, boutiques and personalities. Recently I was flown to New York to cover New York Fashion Week for Nokia and Elle.com! Since then I have realized that fashion media is what I really want to get into. Now all I have to do is chase the opportunities!

Tell us about your daily beauty routine.

I’m a person who is starved for time. Between working, studying and trying to build a journalism/styling portfolio, I don’t have time for a lengthy beauty routine. In the shower I use Bliss body wash which I bought in New York and a Nivea facial toner. After my morning shower I moisturize with an Olay cream and if my skin needs a little bit of extra TLC I use a Lancome moisturizing and de-stressing gel or the SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 gel. In the evening I repeat my shower beauty routine and cleanse my face with a Clearasil cleanser. I also use the Garnier eye roll-on day and night to control puffy circles.

What’s the one beauty treatment you can’t live without? And your favourite place to have it done?

I can’t live without eyebrow shaping. I believe it’s a simple treatment that can make a huge difference when it comes to framing your face. I have my eyebrows shaped at the Benefit Eyebrow bar in Myer. The ladies there take it seriously and are really professional. I’ve never been anything less than 100% satisfied!

Who do you trust with your hair in Perth, and why?

I get my hair done at Bangs Salon on Murray Street. My hair stylist Naomi has just left for Melbourne so I am a little distraught, but everyone there is amazing. They know exactly what I want even when I say things like “you know, I want hair like Lara Bingle” and the prices are really reasonable!

Favourite budget / at home beauty treatment?

You don’t have to spend a lot on treatments for your hair. There are so many products out there that provide the same results at home as the salon! I deep condition my hair with a Schwarzkopf deep condition about once per month. The results are amazing and I bought the tub for around $10 a year ago!

Your three, absolutely cannot live without, favourite products?

I live for my Bliss body wash. There is something really soothing about stepping out of the shower, feeling clean and smelling like orange blossom! Maybe it is also because it reminds me of my trip to New York! I’ve also just run out of my SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 Gel which is like liquid gold! I have never found a product that has been so great for my skin. Thirdly I have issues with puffy circles around my eyes. Since trying the Garnier eye roll on I will never go back. I know some people are dubious about the benefits but even if the caffeine has no effect, the results are soothing and hydrating. I have noticed a marked difference in the skin around my eyes!

Do you have any secret tips you use to keep looking / feeling great?

Drinking lots of water and eating well is essential for looking and feeling great, but it is no secret! I suppose I try to be positive as much as I can. I think that makes a huge difference in how you look and feel. Happiness is by far the best beauty therapy!

What beauty treatment/ wellbeing activity would you love to try but haven’t yet? (Due to time, money, scared etc!)

I would love to try Bikram yoga because I have heard so many great things about it. I’m not sure though if I would be able to handle the heat… literally!

Describe a typical day of eating for you.

I usually get breakfast with my morning coffee in the city to save time at home. I’m a little bit naughty and will often have a muffin or a croissant! Lunch depends on whether I am at work or uni. At work I will often have an avocado roll or a pesto chicken wrap from Croissant Express. At uni I can’t go past the rice paper rolls at Café 55 in Fremantle! I try to cook every night and keep it as diverse as possible. A couple of regulars are rice with butter chicken, and veal ravioli in a creamy tomato sauce!

Describe your fitness routine.

On a good day I’ll try to do 30 minutes of cardio on top of my daily running around. I never drive to work so that means I get at least 40 minutes of fast walking each day. When I get home I play with the dog in the front yard or workout to the Zumba video I got for Christmas.

Do you take part in any alternative therapies or take supplements? If so, discuss.

I take a Vitamin B supplement which helps me to keep my stress under control and seems to put everything into perspective. Whenever I call my Mum to tell her about an issue I’m having she asks me “Have you had a Vitamin B lately?” It may sound silly but it’s true, Vitamin B is really important for me to ensure I balance my stress!

How do you like to relax? What are your favourite ways to de-stress?

Nothing beats a holiday to Rottnest. I can never be stressed on Rottnest Island – lazing around in the sun, riding my bike around the island and swimming in the crystal clear waters! That’s rarely an option though so for day to day de-stressing I take a deep breath, go for a walk and have some “me” time. I also think it’s important to spend some quality time with my family and partner when I’m feeling stressed. Sunday is my ultimate relax day because I lounge around with my partner and our dog watching movies and talking about our weeks!

Thanks to Bonnie for sharing her beauty & wellbeing routine!

Beauty and Wellbeing Routine: Clare Ryan, Style Editor @ Scoop Magazine.

First up, briefly tell us a little bit about yourself!

I love being creative and discovering new things. I’m a stylist and writer (style editor) at Scoop Publishing where I work across everything from men’s and women’s fashion, health and beauty and homes/architecture. Every day is different and exciting. One day I’ll be running around picking up clothing for a fashion shoot, and the next I’ll be writing about an amazing new furniture brand in WA or international home. My job keeps me on my toes and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’ve also started a website (www.clareryan.com) to showcase some of my favourite work and I blog there about fashion shoots I do in a behind-the-scenes style. Between work, my beautiful friends and family and exercising – well trying to – it can be hard to find some time to myself…but the beach solves that problem. I feel at home when I’m at the beach and the best time is in the early hours of the morning.

Tell us about your daily beauty routine.

I don’t do much to my skin in the morning. I have a shower and wash my face with Neutrogena Deep Clean Cleanser – I’ve been using it since I was 15 and it has always worked for me so I haven’t changed. I know people say you need to change products as your skin gets older and has different needs, but I figure I’ll change when it stops working. In summer I use Invisible Zinc sunscreen and in winter i just use my NARS primer that has 15 plus protection. I’m at my desk for most of the day during winter so I can get away with only 15 plus.

At night I cleanse my face again and then depending on how dry or oily my skin is (it always changes) I either use Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil, or Olay Total Effects. I have quite a few other beauty products that i use – it comes with the job – so I trial different products all the time. This sometimes results in my skin freaking out so I always return to my basics.

What’s the one beauty treatment you can’t live without? And your favourite place to have it done?

What did women do before waxing? It doesn’t matter what time of the year it is I always have my set appointments at Strip Womens Waxing in Subiaco, Siobhan is amazing!

Lucky second is a light natural spray tan from Aussie Bombshell, Penni is the best! And knows how to make my pasty skin glow.

Who do you trust with your hair in Perth, and why?

Zoe Harris from Be Ba Beau in Highgate. She is a pro when it comes to my hair. I’ve been seeing Zoe for years and she’s amazing and I always get compliments and asked who does my hair. Not only is she incredibly talented (she’s won a list of awards) but she knows how my hair needs to sit/be cut so it’s easy for me to easily style every day. There’s been a few times I’ve walked into an appointment and mentioned certain styles, and I can tell by the look on her face that it is a bad idea! I think that’s what makes her a fantastic hairdresser.

Favourite budget / at home beauty treatment?

An eyelash tint always goes down a treat. It saves me time in the morning and its fantastic in summer because I can wake up, go for a swim and not look like a panda…there’s nothing worse than seeing a girl with black mascara running down her face at the beach. I go to Jana Beauty in Subiaco, the girls there are so sweet….I think I’ve fallen asleep once or twice while laying there.

Your three, absolutely cannot live without, favourite products?

Eeek that is really hard. Lucas Papaw Ointment is always in my handbag. Um, I’m addicted to Batiste Dry Shampoo, it’s a lifesaver! I don’t have time to do my hair every day so as soon as it gets oily I just use a little dry shampoo and its good as new and smells yummy. I can’t live without De Lorenzo Elements Ocean Mist, it makes my hair look like I’ve just been at the beach. My hair has a natural wave in it already so it defines the wave and gives it a fresh and tousled effect.

Do you have any secret tips you use to keep looking / feeling great?

It’s not a beauty secret, but I honestly try not to drink alcohol during the week (which is very hard), drink lots of water and get enough sleep. I can tell when I haven’t had enough sleep because my skin struggles to keep up and looks dull and dry. For my wellbeing I head to the beach and sit on the sand and just relax for awhile – there’s something soothing about the ocean and I think the fresh air is good for you.

What beauty treatment/ wellbeing activity would you love to try but haven’t yet? (Due to time, money, scared etc!)

I would love to go on one of those crazy detox retreats overseas. But I don’t have the time or money and I’m not sure I could live without chocolate for two weeks.

Describe a typical day of eating for you.

I love food and find myself munching on something all day! I start with eggs or whole meal grain toast, then I have some fruit or rice crackers and lunch is either sushi or a tuna salad – I work opposite Grill’d, so burgers have been popping up here and there. I’m often on the road so I try and grab something healthy like a salad sandwich. Dinner really varies for me from pasta to chicken and veggies or a catch up dinner with the girls.

Describe your fitness routine.

I go to the gym twice a week and either do cycle or pump and I go for walks along the beach whenever I can in winter and most nights in summer.

Do you take part in any alternative therapies or take supplements? If so, discuss.

I’ve been seeing a naturopath (Val Allen) since I was little…at the moment I’m on iron tablets which is no surprise because I’m always burning the candle at both ends. I also have regular sessions of kinesiology by Coleen McClymans from Empowering Dynamics, I’ve been seeing Coleen for a few years now and I’ve really noticed a difference, she helps in all areas from injuries to day to day stress.

How do you like to relax? What are your favourite ways to de-stress?

When I have the money, an amazing exfoliation/treatment from Bodhi J always relaxes me, otherwise it’s a long walk along the coast where I grab a coffee and sit on the beach and do nothing!

Thanks Clare!

Beauty and Wellbeing Routine: Lavida Rose, Stress Transformation and Lifestyle Enhancement Specialist.

First up, briefly tell us a little bit about yourself!

Hello! My name is Lavida Rose. I facilitate private workshops in stress transformation, emotional resilience and lifestyle enhancement. I love food. I love animals. And I never get the two confused. Philosophically, I love any form of elevation and expansion. I love creation. I love reverence.

Tell us about your daily beauty routine.

My daily beauty routine starts with compassion, followed by a preferred 5am start (exceptions happen!). To me, beauty begins with how we relate to things, people, animals and the environment around us. I like to get the most out of the day which motivates me to get an early start. Beauty begins with how I feel and think, then, I add on a few basic extras like home grown lemons, fair trade coconut oil and nourishing food.

What’s the one beauty treatment you can’t live without? And your favourite place to have it done?

I can’t live without the beauty treatments created and shared by mother nature; sunshine, fresh air, waterfalls, natural phenomena, the ocean, mountains and hills. The choices are too competitive to have favourites!

Who do you trust with your hair in Perth, and why?

Me! I always have a pair of scissors handy and most anything else which is used at a hair-dresser; would be a no go for me, I prefer to be chemical and pollutant free.

Favourite budget / at home beauty treatment?

Ooh that’s a close call between organic coconut oil and raw organic lemon. I cleanse with fresh lemon juice (gradual dilutions are best on sensitive skin) and I do most everything else with coconut oil; moisturize, condition my hair, brush my teeth and eat!

Your three, absolutely cannot live without, favourite products?

– My own unlimited supply of Niulife Fair-trade Organic Coconut Oil

– Home grown organic lemons
Organic Rosehip Oil

Do you have any secret tips you use to keep looking / feeling great?

Heart consciousness and an open mind, these two things make a big difference, as does, connecting with natural elements, like sunshine and fresh air!

What beauty treatment/ wellbeing activity would you love to try but haven’t yet? (Due to time, money, scared etc!)

This would definitely include travel to experience something exotic in another country, like natural hot springs or a mud bath or a waterfall massage.

Describe a typical day of eating for you.

A typical day of eating for me; is all about conscious consumption. Being aware of both energy lines in which food is prepared and produced and enjoying taste, texture and composition. My Eat-style is all about wholefoods (food that comes from the earth and stays that way until you buy it). My eat-style is also all about simplicity. It is about having a clean and clear palette and consciously enjoying everything that I swallow. I don’t eat anything which endured any suffering and I don’t eat foods that have been altered. A typical day of eating for me is … nonstop pleasure!

Describe your fitness routine.

It starts with moving, sedentary lifestyles are best left to meditating gurus. If there’s music I will dance (sometimes even if there isn’t music I still dance), I love stretching (so, yoga is a practice that meets me at 5am), Inner strength is an essential part of my fitness routine, so my abdominals always get daily attention. I also walk, hike, swim and run (but not all at the same time). Our bodies thrive on oxygenation and circulation, how about sending all that heart energy around your own physical universe?

Do you take part in any alternative therapies or take supplements? If so, discuss.

No, we have access to everything we need, everything else is just entertainment.

How do you like to relax? What are your favourite ways to de-stress?

Quality connections with people, nature, art and creation.

Thanks to Lavida for sharing her inspiring routine. If you have any questions please leave them below 🙂

Be well,

xoxo

Beauty & Wellbeing Routine: Rebecca Davis, Actor.

First up, briefly tell us a little bit about yourself!

I am a professional actor and am currently based in WA. I am also a co-director in an entertainment booking agency called Big Sky Entertainment WA, representing bands, tribute bands, solo artists, duos, trios, jazz, rock, magicians, comedians, burlesque, fight performers etc etc. I am married and have two children, 6 years and 17 months.

Tell us about your daily beauty routine.

I am pretty fastidious when it comes to a beauty routine both morning and night. Saying that, having small children I have had to make sure I get it down to 5 minutes as time is of the essence these days! For the last 5 years I have pretty much used an American line called ‘Paulas Choice‘. Paula Begoun is an incredible lady who has dedicated her life to researching beauty products and makeup lines all over the world. She is meticulous in her research and has written some wonderful books reviewing the products. She has also developed her own, amazing line of beauty products.

What’s the one beauty treatment you can’t live without? And your favourite place to have it done?

I do love a good glycolic peel…..being on the move all the time I don’t tend to stick with one particular beauty therapy, although whenever I can I do love to use Keturah Day Spas.

Who do you trust with your hair in Perth, and why?

I do stick to my favourite hair salon – Lee Preston Hairdressers in South Perth. They have an incredible team who have provided me with the best cut and styles I have ever had done. They are also a very happy bunch and always seem to be on time – I have never had to wait once!

Favourite budget / at home beauty treatment?

Paulas Choice BHA lotion (pictured above)

Your three, absolutely cannot live without, favourite products?

Paulas Choice cleansers, BHA products and night moisturiser.

Do you have any secret tips you use to keep looking / feeling great?

Take the 5 min morning and night beauty routine to spend on yourself – not a long time but it makes all the difference in a hectic schedule. I also love ‘my time’ at the gym – I am addicted to spin classes!

What beauty treatment/ wellbeing activity would you love to try but haven’t yet? (Due to time, money, scared etc!)

One of those total spa wellness indulgence packages would be amazing one day….!

Yoghurt!

Describe a typical day of eating for you.

Muesli and yoghurt for breakfast, coffee and fruit/nuts for mid morning snack, tuna and salad roll for lunch, fruit in the afternoon and either fish or chicken with vegetables for dinner. I am a yoghurt freak so dessert would probably consist of one of my favourite varieties.

Describe your fitness routine.

An ideal week would be to speed walk 50min 3 times a week, spin classes twice a week, and body pump twice a week.

Do you take part in any alternative therapies or take supplements? If so, discuss.

My husband is a professional actor as well and also a massage therapist so I try and squeeze in a massage with him when I can.

Thanks Rebecca for taking the time to share your routine with us!

Be well,

xoxo

Beauty and Wellbeing Routine: Ashlee Crabbe, Perth Model.

First up, briefly tell us a little bit about yourself!

My name is Ashlee, I grew up in the country and started modelling while I was in high school. I spent a bit of time travelling as part of the job and enjoyed taking part in fashion weeks around the country, working with great photographers and making great friends.

I then enrolled in a journalism & public relations degree at uni which I graduated from last year. While I did most of the course in Perth, I spent six months studying in London and travelling through Europe which was the best experience of my life. I now work at WAtoday as well as modelling casually.

Tell us about your daily beauty routine.

In the mornings I cleanse with Cetaphil and use Estee lauder day cream, it has the best texture I’ve fallen in love with it. On my body I used QV wash and a mixture of sorboline and cocoa-butter moisturisers. I’ve also started dry body-brushing after reading about it online, it apparently does wonders for your circulation so I’m hoping to get Miranda Kerr-like results – we’ll see!

At night I cleanse with Cetaphil again and sometimes tone with witch hazel to get rid of any oil build up. I then mix it up every night with something different to help repair my skin while I sleep. I either use rosehip oil, argan oil, a serum by Estee Lauder (my favourites are the Intensive Night Repair and the new Idealist serum) or a light moisturiser. I’ve just discovered oils and serums and I think they are fantastic, I love the idea of something on your skin replenishing cells as you sleep. I also love the oils, they’re so cheap and natural and they absorb straight into your skin so they aren’t actually oily at all.

What’s the one beauty treatment you can’t live without? And your favourite place to have it done?

Boring, but waxing – I believe in upkeep! I get it done by the girls at Waxworks in the city, purely because I’ve always gone there and it’s where I feel comfortable.

Photo from Scene Models

Who do you trust with your hair in Perth, and why?

Hair is an odd one for me, I am actually really pedantic about my hair because it gets hammered with heat styling at shows and shoots. But I don’t really go to the hairdresser. I used to work for Maurice Meade so they would always do my hair at the Subiaco store, but now I just get it cut by a lovely friend of mine at her home. I am trying to get it cut regularly – every six weeks – so that I can start to build on its health and help it grow longer. I don’t colour my hair at all, haven’t done so for about five years I’d say.

Favourite budget / at home beauty treatment?

On the subject of hair … my best at home treatment is my Kerastase Age Recharge hair mask, which I don’t actually use as a mask but as a normal conditioner. I wash my hair probably every 3 days so I use that and let it absorb for at least five minutes. It’s expensive for a conditioner but I find it is the only thing to nourish my very dry hair!

Your three, absolutely cannot live without, favourite products?

The three I can’t live without would have to be cetaphil cleanser, my Estee Lauder day cream and a good eye-brow pencil or powder like Laura Mercier, or if I’m going budget Rimmel does a good one too! If I can add a fourth it would be bronzer because I’m big on a healthy glow, but I believe brows are the most important aspect of your face. Bad eyebrows really get to me and mine aren’t naturally thick enough.

Sleep! <3

Do you have any secret tips you use to keep looking / feeling great?

Its clichéd but getting enough sleep and drinking enough water. I do look like hell if I don’t get enough sleep.
Of course exercise – and I don’t do enough but the warmer weather is a great motivator to take a walk on the beach or the river. It makes you feel better and if you feel good, you look good!

But also I believe in doing something you love. Nothing is better than feeling happy and relaxed – I love reading with a cup of tea, looking at fashion blogs, chocolate and a nice wine in the sun!

What beauty treatment/ wellbeing activity would you love to try but haven’t yet? (Due to time, money, scared etc!)

Time is my biggest detractor from doing things. I’ve been meaning to start Reformer Pilates with a girlfriend but we can never sync our schedules. I’m not a morning person so the idea of getting to a class before work makes me cringe, plus I normally try to catch up with friends after work so it’s hard to book it in!

Describe a typical day of eating for you.

Okay I’m not the best eater. I wish I did but I really don’t have much of a fondness for fruit and vegetables. I usually start the day with toast – honey if I’m in a rush and avocado with tomato if I have some time. Plus a cup of tea. Then I usually eat a big lunch of leftover stir-fry and rice which is where I get my vegetables, usually capsicum, mushroom, baby corn and broccoli. I normally eat out at night time, be it tapas, Italian, Mexican or a good steak. Plus I’m a huge sweet tooth so my day is often scattered with a touch of Cadbury or something I’ve baked at home!

Describe your fitness routine.

Yeah this leaves little-to-be desired as well. I have always played a lot of sport like netball and basketball however I’m not in a team at the moment. I will go walking though and exercise a lot more in summer when I can go down to the beach. I really want to get a new dog, walking a dog is the best exercise motivator for me!

Do you take part in any alternative therapies or take supplements? If so, discuss.

I don’t really believe in supplements because I think you should get everything you need from the food you eat. I’m sure I don’t however, but still if I crave something I let myself have it because I believe that’s the body’s way of saying you need it. The only thing I do take is Inner-Health Plus, and I love a good herbal tea.

How do you like to relax? What are your favourite ways to de-stress?

My absolute favourite way to de-stress is with a good glass of wine!
I don’t think I’m a very stressed out person, I get busy but I try not to let any issues get to me too much. Mind over matter!

Thanks to Ashlee for taking time out of her busy schedule to share her beauty & wellbeing routine with us! Any questions, please leave a comment 🙂

Be well,

xoxo
