Alternative Therapy Review: Devine Wellbeing Practice, Coolbinia, Perth.

I have spent the last few weeks of every Tuesday A.M. with Larissa Amos from Devine Wellbeing Practice. What she awakens within the four walls of her consciously decorated studio, with modern and retro themes, branded by peacock feathers and a beautiful landscape of attuned crystals, is simply awe inspiring. Larissa greets you with heart at your first consultation, at which moment you are quite assured that you have entered into something quite special. I’m not generally taken by the air and fare that you can experience from ‘so called’ healers, but with Larissa the confidence is raised to a whole new level.

Inside it is both cosy and ambient with soft soulful music playing, the senses are in appreciation. Larissa combines a unique selection of therapies (meditation, massage & healing) which culminate together in both a feel good and life enhancing experience, her time with you is almost always on the generous side, so be sure to spare a few extra minutes, they are well worth it.

Have you ever wondered why you experience the physical and emotional discomforts you do?

Larissa will bring you closer to your answers. “I like to think of emotions as a way of reading information, either sent from an outside source or an internal one, emotions are simply trying to tell us something, my system of healing guides and teaches the individual management of the mind body and spirit” Larissa shares.

My time with her was an awakening experience and a connection to strengths I didn’t know that I had. From the first time that I saw her I have continued to utilise these strengths in the world we live in. Absolutely empowering! I would highly recommend taking a breather to investigate the potential Larissa can elevate you to, truly magical.

The Devine Wellbeing Practice is located in Coolbinia, nestled within the suburban streets, bookings are by appointment only.

Beauty & Wellbeing Routine: Jasmine Waters, Perth Model.

First up, briefly tell us a little bit about yourself!

Hi, my name is Jasmine and I’m a model with Scene Model Management. I am currently in my final year studying at school.

Tell us about your daily beauty routine.

I use a Clinique Rinse-Off Foaming Cleanser and 7 Day Scrub Cream and Become Day Cream.

During the day for make up, instead of using foundation, I use Pore Putty bb cream and face powder. It’s great because it gives heaps of coverage and makes your skin feel really soft, but looks like you’re not wearing anything at all. For blush I use Urban Decay glide-on cheek tint because they have some awesome colours. In my make up bag I also carry a Fred Farrugia transparent creme blush. I usually don’t wear any eye shadow and just use Sephora mascara.

What’s the one beauty treatment you can’t live without? And your favourite place to have it done?

I love a massage and reflexology, although I’ve only had it done in Bali on the beach as yet! It’s a great way to relax.

Who do you trust with your hair in Perth, and why?

I don’t often cut my hair to be honest (its very long at the moment), but the last time I had it done was by Skatt in Claremont and I was very pleased.

Favourite budget / at home beauty treatment?

I sometimes use Bio Oil for dry skin treatment.

Your three, absolutely cannot live without, favourite products?

My Frederic Fekkai shampoo and conditioner, and marocMaroc “Onguent d’Argan”, it’s a nourishing body balm which is great for people who get really dry skin – like me. This is a new product that I have just discovered and thoroughly recommend it.

Do you have any secret tips you use to keep looking / feeling great?

I don’t use too much make-up, unless I’m doing a shoot. Also, I try to get as much sleep as possible, exercise everyday and always use sunscreen to protect my skin. Drinking lots of water is beneficial too.

What beauty treatment/ wellbeing activity would you love to try but haven’t yet? (Due to time, money, scared etc!)

A fish spa!!

Describe a typical day of eating for you.

Rather than have cereal I like to start the morning with some fruit (sometimes with yoghurt) because I find it’s really refreshing. Then for lunch I usually have tuna and salad. Dinner depends on what everyone in my family is having, but normally we have roast chicken, steak or soup.

Describe your fitness routine.

Exercise and keeping fit is a really big part of my life. Even if I’m really busy I try to go walking for at least an hour and a half every day (about 8km) and on the weekends I do a lot of horse riding.

Do you take part in any alternative therapies or take supplements? If so, discuss.

No I don’t take any supplements, I just try to keep a balanced and healthy diet, and eat sweet foods in moderation.

How do you like to relax? What are your favourite ways to de-stress?

When I want to relax I like to go to the movies. Its great to just sit down, chat with friends and enjoy some popcorn!

Beauty & Wellbeing Routine: Casey Lorraine Thomas, Raw Lifestyle and Detox Coach, Perth.

First up, briefly tell us a little bit about yourself!

I’m a certified Life Coach, Detox and Health Coach, and my passion is helping you to live the life you want in a body you love. I use cellular cleansing and a holistic nutrition and lifestyle approach to create profound and lasting transformation in your health and life.

I educate and work with amazing clients all over the world through my one to one consultations, group coaching programs, motivational speaking, educational and food preparation classes, detox programs and two eBooks.

I live in Perth with my partner and feel so blessed to create and live my dream life every day. Oh, and I also like long walks on the beach 😉

Tell us about your daily beauty routine.

My beauty routine mostly takes the form of ensuring I have excellent health on the inside. This is then reflected on the outside. I support my body to detoxify as best as it possibly can every single day. We have a lot to contend with in our world from pollution to stress to processed food and alcohol, so my first point of call for health and beauty is ensuring my body stays as clean as possible and that my body is able to eliminate toxins as efficiently as possible.

I eat clean whole foods, mostly raw and green. I drink fresh vegetable juice daily. I don’t eat all day so I am not constantly digesting and as a consequence having less energy for everything else. I move my body, meditate and get fresh air and sunshine almost every day. I also think healthy thoughts and aim to live with gratitude for everything in my life. In my opinion, this is so essential if you want to feel beautiful.

I also only ever use the purest beauty products I can find. These Ann Marie Gianni products are my current favourites.

What’s the one beauty treatment you can’t live without? And your favourite place to have it done?

Fresh vegetable juice daily! I also can’t live without an extremely pure cold pressed oil to moisturise with daily. I love olive oil, coconut oil and argan oil.

Who do you trust with your hair in Perth, and why?

This question made me laugh because I am extremely low maintenance when it comes to hair and make up. I prefer to spend my money on fresh organic produce that makes my hair shine and my skin glow than dyes and treatments. But I do love a good hair cut too!

Favourite budget / at home beauty treatment?

Argan oil or coconut oil! I love it massaged through my hair as a treatment, on my body as a moisturiser and as a make up remover. I also adore the Ayurvedic Facial Scrub in this range.

Your three, absolutely cannot live without, favourite products?

The Ayurvedic Facial Scrub, a long handled natural bristle dry body brush and cold pressed oils for moisturisers.

Do you have any secret tips you use to keep looking / feeling great?

Many! I eat a really healthy diet, get plenty of pure water, drink fresh vegetable juice daily, move my body, nourish my mind and my emotions with practices that support them to be healthy, cleanse my colon, do work I am totally in love with, love and be playful all the time and nurture my relationships. These things keep me feeling incredible and looking my best.

What beauty treatment/ wellbeing activity would you love to try but haven’t yet? (Due to time, money, scared etc!)

A hot stone massage! I’ve been wanting to try one of these for many years now but haven’t gotten there yet.

Ed: Check out our reviews of hot stone massages – one, two & three!

Describe a typical day of eating for you.

Every day I drink at least 2 litres of pure water plus herbal teas. I drink a full litre or more of fresh vegetable juice (mostly green vegetables). I eat salad and smoothies every day and often I eat some lightly cooked veggies. I focus on lots of fresh vegetables, a small amount of fruit and tons of avocado – my love!

Describe your fitness routine.

Currently I am running a free Strong Is Sexy Fitness Challenge and it’s so much fun! I love yoga, walking and rebounding, but I’m now also doing regular High Intensity Interval Training with Bodyrock TV workouts. Extremely challenging but great fun!

Do you take part in any alternative therapies or take supplements? If so, discuss.

I take supplements as I feel they would be helpful. I almost always take a high quality probiotic and digestive enzymes but I believe in getting as much as you can from your food. Fresh vegetable juice is my main “supplement”.

I do colon cleansing regularly and enjoy acupuncture and massage occasionally. I also love using essential oils.

How do you like to relax? What are your favourite ways to de-stress?

Lots of things! I adore sitting in the sunshine with my juice and a great book and losing time in my own version of heaven. I love trail walking and hiking, beach walking, and getting out into Nature in any way I can. Yoga and meditation are also regular staples for me. Nothing beats laughing with friends and family and I also love to have a dance around the house and bust out a few moves that no one could ever call graceful ;).

Eczema Eczema, Read All About It: New Range from Nyal.

Winter. It’s clearly here, intruding its way into our lives with the chilliest of mornings and nights. However, I love winter! The smell in the air on rainy days, that glimmer of raindrops off flowers, getting to rug up in clothes that have spent a year in your closet unloved, a close cuddle with someone special and best of all, long, hot showers! Though as much as I love a long hot shower, like 1 in 3 other Australians – I suffer from eczema, where hot showers mean sore, itchy skin. Thankfully I came across the new Eczema Relief Range from Nyal, and decided after years of searching for a decent shower wash and soap, I would give this newcomer a try.

First up, the Nyal Eczema Relief Shower and Bath Oil

The first thing I notice is the smell, and it is goood. Most shower washes I’ve used that have eczema relief qualities have been ok when it comes to calming the skin, however they smell like a hospital hallway. Not really an appealing feature for something that you are going use all over yourself. No thanks! However with this productl I’m being hit with a very enjoyable buttery/caramel type smell, which is a nice change to say the least. The oil also lathers to a milky texture as applied and mixed with water, which leaves a smooth feeling afterwards on your skin.

I’ve found it a really good change to have a pleasant smell and a smooth, soft feel to my skin. The best thing about this shower and bath oil is that it’s made with colloidal oatmeal, which is basically a whole bunch of oats ground down into powder that is really effective at soothing and comforting itchy, scratchy dry skin. And before you think to yourself, hmmm really oatmeal, like I have for breakfast, yummo! You can’t eat it. I checked…

Nyal Eczema Relief Soap Wash

The soap wash seems to be more your traditional-styled eczema wash than the shower and bath oil. It’s comes across nice and mild so you can use it every day, and really seems to cleanse the skin well, leaving your hands feeling nice and soft. The soap wash has been great to me since I started using it, as I recently had a terrible run-in with a nasty massage oil that left my hands with a pretty severe rash for a week or so! Since then, most soaps seem to cause dry skin and eczema to hijack parts of my hand. Not fun. However, this new Nyal soap wash has never given me a problem with that, and I have the comfort of knowing that every time I use it I won’t be applying any soothing cream an hour later. I’ve found it a relief and a much loved addition to the bathroom.

The other good news is, both of these products do not have any parabens in them which makes them even better for you, as these nasties have been linked to the development of breast cancer. They also don’t contain any lanolin, so our cute woollen friends aren’t contributing to our skin care and can remain woolly and warm throughout winter too!

So if you’re looking for a decent relieving soap or shower oil give the new Nyal range a shot as I really enjoyed using these products and will use them in the future, knowing that long hot showers are back on the menu for wintertime. Yes! Though as we know that skin types can differ, I do suggest you try them first if you have eczema or dry skin, and see how its works for you. I know I found them very helpful and good to use. You can find them at your local supermarket or chemist.

Beauty & Wellbeing Routine: Fallon Jones, Fashion and Beauty Photographer + Creativer Director @ Emergent Magazine.

First up, briefly tell us a little bit about yourself!

Hi, I’m Fallon Jones and I’m a fashion and beauty photographer. I have always been a creative person and so a little over 4 years ago I started my business, Poise Photography. I am a Fully Accredited Member of the AIPP (Australian Institute Of Professional Photography) and I specialise in fashion editorial, model & designer look-books, high-end beauty and fashion advertising. I am also Creative Director at a new luxury Perth-based fashion publication, Èmergent Magazine.

Tell us about your daily beauty routine.

I use a tinted moisturiser every day to keep my skin hydrated. (a recent favourite is Dove Summer Glow Body Lotion). I like to use a light coverage foundation – Maybelline Mineral Power Natural Perfecting Foundation with SPF18 sunscreen – because I don’t like anything to heavy on my face. I usually just use a little Ben Nye blush, Napoleon ‘Whole Lotta Lash’ Mascara and Chanel ‘Brilliant Lèvres’ Lipgloss (available at StrawberryNET). Once a week I use an exfoliating glove all over my body.

What’s the one beauty treatment you can’t live without? And your favourite place to have it done?

I can’t live without my monthly manicure. Beautiful, flawless nails make you feel like a whole new woman! I go to Jodi Gittos Beauty (0423 763 598), she always does an amazing job.

Who do you trust with your hair in Perth, and why?

I have had the pleasure to work with amazingly talented people in the fashion industry and I’d have to recommend a friend of mine, Zoe, who works at Sachi for Hair. She can make anyone look and feel amazing!

Favourite budget / at home beauty treatment?

Every week I use Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Mask on my hair. I use the hairdryer and hair straightener frequently so its a great way to get the moisture back into my hair and keep it shiny and healthy.

Your three, absolutely cannot live without, favourite products?

Neutrogena Cleansing Wipes, Garnier Ambre Solaire Moisturising Bronzer and my Nivea Repair & Protect Lip Balm.

Do you have any secret tips you use to keep looking / feeling great?

It sounds cliché, but getting lots of sleep and drinking lots of water really does wonders for your mind and body. A steaming hot shower and full body scrub ensures a comfortable and relaxed night’s sleep!

What beauty treatment/ wellbeing activity would you love to try but haven’t yet? (Due to time, money, scared etc!)

I’d love to try a hot stone massage. It looks amazing so its definitely on my must-try list.

Ed: Check out our reviews of hot stone massages – one, two & three!

Describe a typical day of eating for you.

I don’t really have much of an appetite in the morning so sometimes I skip breakfast (very bad I know!), but most days I have a bowl of oats or avocado on toast with a cup of tea. No two days are the same so I’ll grab some lunch wherever I am, mostly something like Subway or sushi, so I can eat on the run. I always make sure I have a good dinner eg. Chicken, fish or steak with lots of veggies and drink plenty of water.

Describe your fitness routine.

I used to be a real gym junkie but my hectic schedule threw me off for a while. I’m now starting to get back into going to the gym 2 to 3 days a week. I’ve done all sorts of routines with personal trainers, but I’ve found that I really love cardio work-outs. Spinning is amazing!

Do you take part in any alternative therapies or take supplements? If so, discuss.

No, I try to eat healthily so I don’t take supplements but when I’ve been ill I like to take Ethical Nutrients: Inner Health Plus to restore good bacteria and get me feeling good again.

How do you like to relax? What are your favourite ways to de-stress?

My favourite way to de-stress is shopping! I’ve become an online shopping addict! I also love to curl up in bed with the latest Vogue or Harpers Bazaar and, of course, a good dose of Sex & The City never fails to make me smile!

Many thanks to Fallon for taking the time to share her answers with us!

If you have any questions for her, leave them below!

Be well,

xoxo
