Taline Gabrielian’s Secret to Seriously Glowing Skin.

If you haven’t heard of Taline Gabrielian yet, you’re in for a real treat. This gorgeous babe has one of the prettiest Instagram’s I’ve EVER seen, and the best part is it’s all super-healthy food related. Win. From rainbow superfood toasts, star studded rice paper rolls & smoothie bowls to make your mouth water, Taline has got it goin ON. And she’s just released her first recipe book so that us mere food mortals can get in on the brightly coloured superhealth action.

Here are three of Taline’s top tips for looking & feeling your very best – enjoy!

1. What is your top smoothie recipe for glowing skin?

My fave green smoothie has all that you need for glory skin – lime, avocado, ginger, cucumber and leafy greens. Nourishing, tasty and beauty boosting – the right combination.

2. You have a SUPER busy day ahead, what meals/morning practices do you make sure to squeeze in so that you can make the most out of your day?

Organisation is key. I will often start with a power smoothie in the morning (my blueberry smoothie is a powerhouse!) to give me energy to get through my day. I pack myself snacks like nuts and fruit or a carrot muffin if I have one on hand. And I often prep ingredients for dinner in the morning so that when I’m home after work, it simply involves a throw together of pre-cut veg. Pre-cooking quinoa or pasta is also really handy.

3. How do you wind down after a long day?

I’m all about grazing with my family or besties to wind down and sometimes that will involve some sparkly drinks, olives and my snack platter – which includes some super tasty flax crackers I make (recipe in my new book!) and a variety of colourful dips. Other times, when I want some quiet me-time, it’s a candlelit bath, some loungy tunes and a warming spicy chai latte. My favourite ritual!

Beauty & Wellbeing Routine: Melissa Ambrosini, Holistic Health + Life Coach, Speaker, Writer & Self Love Teacher.

First up, briefly tell us a little bit about yourself!

Sure! My name is Melissa and I am a holistic health + life coach, speaker, writer and self love teacher. Four years ago I was a model, dancer, presenter and actress but after experiencing severe burn out and a cocktail of health issues something had to shift. This lead me to weeks in hospital where I decided I wanted to cure myself of adrenal fatigue and thyroid problems and thus became fascinated with holistic health. After practicing as a holistic health coach for a while I realised that it's not only about what you put in your mouth, it's about the thoughts you think moment to moment and I believe these go hand in hand. I want to inspire people to take back control of their health and life and live the life they have always dreamt of.

Tell us about your daily beauty routine.

For My Hair: I recently went to the relaunch of A'kin and Al'chemy and was blown away with how beautiful their products are and having been using their delicious shampoo and conditioner. They've created products with “purity” and “goodness” in mind, and they smell AMAZING. I also use Original and Mineral and love coconut oil for a leave in treatment.

For My Skin: I use Pai Moisturiser and Cleanser from Flora Organica.

For My Body: I use Indah Organic Coconut Oil on my body. It's about the purest you can get, is fair trade and harvested sustainably with local Balinese farmers. The product is gorgeous and so is their philosophy.

Make Up: I don't wear it often but when I do I use Jane Iredale.

Lady Products: I use TOM Organics. You can't get any better than this, and the packaging is super cute.

What's the one beauty treatment you can't live without? And your favourite place to have it done?

Mani's and Pedi's, I love them. Any place is fine with me.

Who do you trust with your hair in Perth, and why?

The only people that touch my hair are the team at Lily Jackson in Sydney. They are amazing and most of their products are natural.

Favourite budget / at home beauty treatment?

Tea tree oil on spots. This is awesome.

Your three, absolutely cannot live without, favourite products?

1. Coconut oil

2. Tea tree oil

3. Organic face moisturiser

Do you have any secret tips you use to keep looking / feeling great?

Drink loads of water. Don't drink coffee. Eat loads of fruit and veggies.

What beauty treatment/ wellbeing activity would you love to try but haven't yet?

Maybe some of the ayurvedic treatments.

Describe a typical day of eating for you.

Morning is either green smoothie or porridge. Lunch and dinner is either organic grass fed and grass finished meat or salmon with salad or veggies + loads of filtered water throughout the day + a bliss ball or two.

Describe your fitness routine.

I exercise every day for at least 30 mins. It changes all the time from yoga, running, walking, boxing or weights.

Do you take part in any alternative therapies or take supplements? If so, discuss.

I take a probiotic each day and don't regularly do alternative therapies but have tried a few.

How many hours sleep do you usually get each night? Do you have any bedtime rituals or tips to help you get a great nights sleep?

8 hours every night is a must for me. My bedtime rituals are dim lights, no TV, phone or computers in bedroom and reading, meditation or deep breathing before bed.

How do you like to relax? What are your favourite ways to de-stress?

Walking in nature, meditating, sipping tea, reading, watching a good movie, yoga, laying on the grass and being around loved ones.

Q & A: Green Smoothies on the Go AKA How Long Will My Green Smoothie Last?

Ever since participating in Green July last year (wow time flies!), I've made it my mission to continue having at least one green smoothie per day. Usually I have enough time in the morning to blend up a little green concoction and drink it for breakfast in the comfort of my own home- no weird looks or funny faces from anyone 😛

However on busy days or days that I start work early it can be challenging trying to fit in time to prep, blend and drink the daily green good stuff. Now I know I'm not the only one who suffers from this little dilemma and thanks to a email from a lovely Wellness WA reader I've got some answers for all your green smoothie on the go questions!

How long will a green smoothie stay fresh for after I make it?
Most green smoothies will stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours, but you will lose some nutrients as it sits in the fridge. If you're rushed for time in the morning, making the smoothie before bed and storing it in an airtight bottle (glass is best) should see it stay fresh for breakfast the next morning. Another option would be to prep all the ingredients and put them in a zip lock bag, which can then be stored in the freezer overnight. That way in the morning all you have to do is add water or milk, blend and go!

Can it be kept in the fridge at work and drunk at lunchtime?

Drinking green smoothies fresh in the morning is best, but if you want to drink it around lunchtime at work that's totally fine too! Again just make sure it is properly stored in an airtight bottle. If water separation occurs, just shake it around a little first before you drink!

What fruits are best to use in a smoothie that won't be consumed immediately?

Smoothies containing bananas should be consumed immediately as bananas degrade more quickly than any other fruit (you may notice a weird change in the color and taste of your smoothie!). Other fruits and ingredients that are often included in green smoothies should stay fresh for the whole day. Berries are best!

Wellness WA Presents: Green July!

The idea came to me out of the blue. Since I don’t drink much alcohol (how boring! ;)) and can’t participate in Dry July, why not start my own version and see if anyone else wanted to take part? The result was Green July!

So what exactly is it?

We all know that eating greens is good for us, so this July, we’re going to drink them. Every day! I will be aiming to have 1 green smoothie every day of July in order to boost my health and happiness, and I’d love you to join me. I’ve previously done a week long challenge which resulted in me feeling absolutely incredible, so I want to continue on and see what happens.

I couldn’t be happier with the response so far – over 280 people have signed up to drink a months worth of green smoothies, yippie! To help us out, I’ve created the Wellness WA Green Smoothie Database with all the recipes we’ve posted on here to date, and we will also be posting green smoothie recipes throughout the month – as well as bringing on some special guest bloggers!

Sign up here if you’re ready to watch your health & wellness SKYROCKET with me! 🙂

If you have any questions please leave them below, or on the event page!

I cannot wait to get started and I really hope you will join in the fun x

Be well,

Annette

One Week Wholefoods Challenge – Feb 2012!

Roll up, roll up! It’s time for a bite sized challenge that will kick-start your wellbeing and have you equal parts zinging with energy and cruising with calm. Sound good? Then read on.

So here’s the deal:

♥ For one week from Monday 13th of February – Sunday 19th December I am going to be doing my darnedest to eat only wholefoods. This means no junk food like: chips, chocolate, burgers, icecream, candy, biscuits etc. I would like you to join me if you feel so inspired!

What can we have instead?

Instead we will feast like Kings, Queens & other noble folk on everything that is GOOD FOR US! 🙂 This means wholefoods and herbal teas, smoothies and lean sources of protein – I would encourage you to cut out as much meat as possible for this one week, if you eat it, otherwise try and get free range! You can get all your protein needs met from vegetable sources such as lentils, chickpeas, beans, avocados and, my favourite, quinoa!

How do I keep track?

Commenting on this post! I’ll be coming back and updating my diet day-by-day so you can check out what I’ve been eating, I’d love you to share your daily menus (and how you’re feeling) in the comments section below and ask any questions you need answered + check out what other healthy delights participants have been tucking into.
