Wellness Recipe: Super Easy, Super Healthy Pancakes!

Simple and delicious. Two things I love in the morning, and these pancakes are just that! They take 10 mins to cook up and are sooooo easy to prepare. Make the base mixture and then add whatever toppings and flavour combinations you like. Refined sugar free and gluten free so you don’t have to feel guilty about eating 3 (or 5….) and high in protein (so they’re perfect post workout!).

Makes about 5 medium sized or 6 small. So serves 1 very hungry person or 2 people willing to share!

BASIC MIXTURE

♥ 1 ripe banana
♥ 2 eggs
♥ 2 teaspoons cinnamon
♥ 1 tablespoon flax meal
♥ 1 tablespoon water
♥ 2 tablespoons quinoa flakes
♥ 1/2 -1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I used David Wolfe’s organic brown rice protein)

METHOD

1. Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth

2. Heat some coconut oil in a pan and cook pancakes on both sides until lightly brown (turning when the top bubbles)

3. Top with anything you want (use your imagination!!!)

Topping ideas:

+ Peanut butter, shredded coconut, blueberries, walnuts (as above)

+ Almond butter, chopped figs, shredded coconut

+ Coconut butter, raspberries, chopped banana

Happy breakfast everyone!!! 😀

Do you like the look of this recipe, leave a comment below if you've tried it, I'd love to hear your thoughts & what toppings you used!

Day Spa Review: 3 Hours of Absolute Bliss at Cove Spa in South Perth!

Nestled amongst the beautiful houses and quiet streets of South Perth, Cove Day Spa provides an urban wellness oasis. Coinciding with my 6 week liver and kidney detox (a decision I deeply regretted on Australia Day!), I decided that now was the perfect time to take advantage of Cove Spa's awesome summer special- the full body cleanse!

After changing into the standard fluffy white robe I was led to the relaxation room (filled with lemon water, snacks and tea) to fill out a quick questionnaire and settle in. Shortly after I was greeted by my warm and very knowledgeable therapist Kylie, whom escorted me to my treatment room.

The full body cleanse package consists of 5 treatments:

Urine PH and Heavy Metal Test

We started off with a 20 minute health and lifestyle consultation, which included a urine pH and heavy metal check. It was exciting and very interesting. Kylie explained the results of my test and gave some good lifestyle tips including the benefits of dry body brushing and green drinks.

Far Infrared Sauna

A hidden sanctuary houses the infrared sauna and has a very tropical feel. I was given a glass of fresh coconut water to hydrate and left to myself for the next 30 minutes to relax. Infrared saunas differ from traditional saunas in that they heat the body not the air. They warm the muscles and joints and stimulate fat cells to release toxins. Afterwards I felt quite warm, but wasn’t overly hot and sweaty like I would normally be from a traditional sauna.

Full Body Massage

After hopping up onto the most comfy massage bed ever (think fluffy pillowed clouds), I was massaged all over with a special blend of detoxifying essential oils. The smell was divine and the pressure was perfect.

Body Scrub, Wrap & Chakra Balancing Facial

The sugar crystal scrub felt amazing, exfoliating every little bit of my body. I was then wrapped up while my facial got underway. Along with an awesome face massage, warm amethyst crystals were rubbed all over my face to stimulate the internal detoxifying organs and get rid of negative energy. So good!

Disco Shower, AKA Swiss Shower

Finally, I was left to rinse and re-energise in the Swiss shower. Swiss showers feature multiple showerheads that alternate warm and cold water. A highly invigorating experience! This particular shower also had flashing coloured lights (hence my nickname for it), which I was told was a form of colour therapy. One wonders whether Swiss showers are sold on Gumtree….

Finishing off in the relaxation room with a cup of the spas signature tea (a blend of cinnamon, ginger, cardamon and cloves) and a delicious bowl of probiotic yoghurt with berries, I was definitely in bliss town 🙂

Overall the service was professional and welcoming. The spa was very clean and the attention to detail was great. A perfect gift for a mother, sister, friend, yourself or even a significant male friend. Whomever for, if you’re interested in a little relaxation, detoxification and a brand new start, this treatment would be perfect!

Beauty & Wellbeing Crushes: Lululemon, Sweet Rose Tea, Tempeh & Tara Stiles!

Lululemon Clothing

I walked in to buy a gift voucher for a friend's birthday and walked out with that plus a pair of awesome running shorts, the most comfy workout singlet I've ever bought and a pair of the worlds best leggings. Do I regret it?…Not one bit! Served by the lovely and forever helpful Claire at the Cottesloe store, there are now about 50 other things that I'm saving up for to go back and buy. In the meantime I'll be eating/exercising/sleeping in my current purchases (washing in between of course!)

Organic India Tulsi Sweet Rose Tea

Turkish delight in a tea bag. This stuff is delicious and provides a perfect little sweet treat for any time of day. I discovered the pleasures of drinking it chilled and added to a smoothie (banana + nut milk + chilled rose tea + ice) and drinking it hot- the perfect accompaniment to a slice of red velvet cake 😀

Tara Stiles Youtube Videos

I've been trying to add 10 mins of yoga into my morning routine to help stretch out my muscles and get the blood flowing. I've also found huge improvements to my mood and subsequent calming effects on the rest of my day. If you're time poor then Tara Stiles yoga Youtube videos are the bomb! They range from about 5 to 10 minutes each with many different levels. There are more intense workouts, like this full body routine (my fav) or more calming and restorative workouts.

Tempeh

I'm majorly crushing on tempeh at the moment! Adding it to everything from salads to stir-fries.

My latest creation involves wrapping it up with some quinoa, kale and nori to make delicious hand rolls. It also tastes amazing sliced up, quickly fried on both sides and eaten alone like little tempeh soldiers. YUM!

Beauty & Wellbeing Routine: Kavisha Jegathesan, Wellness WA Contributor & RMIT Master of Wellness Student.

First up, briefly tell us a little bit about yourself!

In a nutshell? I am extremely passionate about holistic health and living well. I am also a huge foodie and have a passion for healthy cooking and baking. I am currently studying for my Master of Wellness at RMIT University.

Angels on Bare Skin Cleanser!

Tell us about your daily beauty routine.

When it comes to skincare I try to use natural and organic whenever possible. I cleanse & tone daily with Paula’s Choice one step face cleanser and healthy skin refreshing toner (colour & fragrance free). I use Lush’s Angels On Bare Skin as my daily exfoliant.

♥ Korres

I’m also a huge fan of Korres (natural & certified organic Greek skincare brand) and am currently using the moisturiser, serum and mask from their Wild Rose skincare range. Korres available from StrawberryNET and Kit Cosmetics.

I’ve just started using Sukin Organic products on my body and hair. They use cold-pressed, solvent free oils, essential oils and 100% natural botanical extracts and their products smell great!

What’s the one beauty treatment you can’t live without? And your favourite place to have it done?

I always have to have painted nails, so I give myself weekly manicures!

Who do you trust with your hair in Perth, and why?

Jo at Raven Hair Design in Bicton. She’s an amazing hairdresser and is so passionate about her work.

Favourite budget / at home beauty treatment?

Coconut oil as a hair mask and also eating healthy fats for glowing skin. Healthy fats are the natural fats found in avocado, chia seeds and wild caught salmon, high in anti-inflammatory omega 3 fatty acids.

Your three, absolutely cannot live without, favourite products?

Coconut oil (I use the NiuLife brand), Korres wild rose 24-H moisturizing brightening cream, Lush Angels On Bare Skin.

Do you have any secret tips you use to keep looking / feeling great?

Food is the bodies’ best medicine! Looking good starts from the inside out.

Eat SLOW! Seasonal, Locally produced with lots of colour and variety, Organic, Whole, fresh and with minimal processing.

Stay away from the white stuff (white pasta, white rice, white bread, sugar) and limit alcohol consumption.

Always remove makeup before bed & don’t wear foundation!

Sodashi

What beauty treatment/ wellbeing activity would you love to try but haven’t yet? (Due to time, money, scared etc!)

Sodashi skincare, a hot stone massage, reformer Pilates, a juice detox, a raw food ‘cooking’ class, so many!!!

Describe a typical day of eating for you.

Breakfast: Organic full fat yoghurt (Barambah is my fav) with banana or blueberries, bee pollen & home made muesli (rolled oats, quinoa flakes, chia seeds, almonds, brazil nuts, pumpkin seeds, goji berries, cacao nibs, shredded coconut) or Eggs (scrambled or poached) with veggies and greens.

Lunch: A massive green salad full of protein and good fats or nori wraps! At the moment i’m loving kale/spinach, a hard boiled egg, edamame beans, roma tomatoes, avocado, herbs from my garden, goats feta, pumpkin seeds & basil pesto.

Dinner: If I’m home it’s usually salmon with steamed/baked veggies or cumin baked sweet potato fries.

Snacks: Fruit, organic nut butter, almonds, green smoothies.

Drinks: Water, green tea, herbal teas.

Describe your fitness routine.

I exercise 5-6 x a week. I like to mix it up between cardio (RPM, boxing, Jacobs ladder), weight training and flexibility (yoga, body balance).

Do you take part in any alternative therapies or take supplements? If so, discuss.

I start each day with a green drink to help detox and alkalinize the body. At the moment I’m trialing Extreme Superfoods Green Smoothie Booster. I also take fish oil, vitamin c, and magnesium supplements daily.

How do you like to relax? What are your favourite ways to de-stress?

Meditation, getting a massage, catching up with friends, baking, watching a funny movie!

Kavisha will be sharing her in-depth knowledge of all things wellness with us a couple of times a month! We love her, and you will too. If you have any questions about her routine, please comment below 🙂

Be well,

xoxo
