Being on my version of the Earth Diet Challenge: 365 days sugar free, preservative free, MSG free, artificial anything free, I’ve been looking at different ways of preparing food.
About two years ago I was at my diet was 100% raw and I felt absolutely amazing. I had recently been diagnosed with Graves Disease and the medication wasn’t working fast enough and so my specialist recommended removing my thyroid.
Things go a little out of control without a thyroid as I soon discovered. I was tired, foggy and if that wasn’t enough I gained 10 kilos in 8 weeks! I ‘discovered’ the raw food diet on a google search and I seriously never felt better.
However as with most things, as I started feeling better the motivation to stay 100% raw diminished, as did my feeling great. Funny that.
I eat fairly well these days, and as I said earlier I committed to the Earth Diet Challenge 56 days ago now and was looking for new ways to prepare my food when along came a 2 for 1 offer to attend a raw food class so how could I say no to that?
Food in the Nude – A Vibrant Start!

♥
I arrived to Michelle’s class and joined the other 10 ladies that were there, her classes are held at the back of her home in a gorgeous room with plenty of natural light.
Michelle started off by telling us about her story, her past health problems and where she gets her passion for raw foods. The best thing was she was totally upfront with all of us and admitted that she wasn’t perfect, not only was she not perfect but she had eaten a Krispy Kreme doughnut recently! Talk about making people feel at ease.
The other great thing about Michelle is there was no “all or nothing” approach. I’ve found that a lot of people who say they’re interested in your health have a belief that their way is the only way and they can be quite painful to deal with.
♥
She went through a dazzling array of equipment that she uses, but was quick to point out that we could start with just the basics of a blender and food processor, knife and cutting board.
♥ Michelle making a green smoothie, check out that glowing skin!
We then progressed to the food, and oh my goodness what a great way to convert people while educating them.
We started off with two different green smoothies, followed by Buckwheat Crispies, Cacao Crispies, Almond Museli, cinnamon gRAWnola and Walnut and Goji Crumble. And just in case there was a chance that we might be able to walk out the door rather than be rolled she then gave us Almond and Chia Porridge followed by my favourite, The Big Brekky! Tomatoes, Mushrooms and Guacamole on Sprouted Toast.
♥ Ingredients for the Buckwheat Crispies

♥ Some various raw food products

♥ The yummy looking tomatoes and mushrooms!
All this was made in front of us showing us just how easy it is to add more raw into your diet and how simple it can actually be to put it all together with no experience at all.
The price ($135) included all the above plus handouts with information on where you can get your nutrients on a high raw diet as well as equipment, methods, kitchen cupboard staples as well as resources to find all the above.
Best of all she gave us the recipes to all the food we sampled as well as a few more smoothie ideas.
Where: Hamilton Hill
What: Raw Food Classes
How much: Generally around $135 for 3 hours learning to prepare (and be filled up on!) fabulous raw foods

Do you know that eating far more fresh fruits and vegetables daily than the government recommendation of two fruit and five veg can completely change your health, your body and your life experience for the better?
In fact, eating a mostly vegetable based diet can propel your health to heights you can’t even imagine. They alkalise your blood, help to balance your body (and your moods!), allow better digestion and detoxification to occur and improve your chances of healing everything from acne to cancer.
Take my experience for example. I was reliant on daily steroid use to manage debilitating top to toe eczema for almost 25 years of my life. I was very frequently sick with the flu, colds and infections, plus I always battled with my weight. For ten years I tried every medical and natural route to heal my body of the symptoms and pain I lived with to no avail. That is, until I started downing green vegetable juice every day, eating a plant based diet of mostly vegetables, particularly leafy greens, adding in therapeutic natural foods and getting my colon cleansed. Yes, you read that last bit right.
This powerful combination transformed my health, body, energy, happiness and even my career and whole life experience in a way I never thought possible. This is the power of a clean, alkalising, plant based diet to start a revolution inside your own body. Of course, don’t forget your mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing too! Below is a look into a typical day for me, which keeps me feeling consistently wonderful. Please use this to inspire, not mimick. You and I are different and have different needs. That is why I coach clients to find their own perfect balance, but everyone can benefit from seriously upping their veggie intake.
7 AM: I wake up and immediately get my meditation on. I listen to a guided mediation, my much loved Blissitations or practice mindfulness meditation.
♥
7.20 AM: I drink lots of spring water and then shake my booty for anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes. I am currently running a free Strong Is Sexy Fitness Challenge on my website which is great fun!
8.15 AM: Shower time! I brush my body in long strokes towards the heart with my natural bristly dry body brush to stimulate my lymphatic system. I shower and moisturise with organic, pure products and oils.
8.30 to 11.30 AM: I grab a litre of pure water with lemon juice and stevia and some Tulsi tea and head to my office to get started on my work day.
11.30 AM: I venture on to my back patio to catch some sunlight and breathe deeply.
11.45AML More clients, writing articles, blog posts, and other work. I feel so blessed to do the work I do.
♥
1 PM: I make a full litre of green vegetable juice. Some combination of cucumber, celery, zucchini, silverbeet, chard, parsley, mint, kale, cos lettuce with lemon and ginger. I drink more herbal tea and pure water throughout the day.
♥
3 PM: A snack of a smoothie made from spinach, avocado, blueberries, vanilla stevia, carob powder, cinnamon, water and ice fills me up while leaving me feeling light and energetic (similar to this recipe).
6PM: After finishing up my main projects and tasks for the day, I create an incredible salad of baby lettuces, carrot, beetroot, chopped garlic and ginger and cubed avocado topped with this winning Raw Japanese Caesar Dressing. I follow my salad with steamed cauliflower sprinkled with nutritional yeast, sea salt and dill. While making dinner, I listen to inspiring audios and dance to great music.
♥
8 PM: After some final work, scheduling, emails, chores and often a class, client or teleclass, I relax for the night with a hot carob “milk” made with fresh almond milk. I spend quality time with my man, read, watch a film, do some stretches, go for a walk or just lay quietly until I go to bed. Every night I go to sleep listening to more Blissitations and smiling into my pillow, grateful that I’m alive.

♥ First up, briefly tell us a little bit about yourself!
I’m a certified Life Coach, Detox and Health Coach, and my passion is helping you to live the life you want in a body you love. I use cellular cleansing and a holistic nutrition and lifestyle approach to create profound and lasting transformation in your health and life.
I educate and work with amazing clients all over the world through my one to one consultations, group coaching programs, motivational speaking, educational and food preparation classes, detox programs and two eBooks.
I live in Perth with my partner and feel so blessed to create and live my dream life every day. Oh, and I also like long walks on the beach 😉
♥ Tell us about your daily beauty routine.
My beauty routine mostly takes the form of ensuring I have excellent health on the inside. This is then reflected on the outside. I support my body to detoxify as best as it possibly can every single day. We have a lot to contend with in our world from pollution to stress to processed food and alcohol, so my first point of call for health and beauty is ensuring my body stays as clean as possible and that my body is able to eliminate toxins as efficiently as possible.
I eat clean whole foods, mostly raw and green. I drink fresh vegetable juice daily. I don’t eat all day so I am not constantly digesting and as a consequence having less energy for everything else. I move my body, meditate and get fresh air and sunshine almost every day. I also think healthy thoughts and aim to live with gratitude for everything in my life. In my opinion, this is so essential if you want to feel beautiful.
I also only ever use the purest beauty products I can find. These Ann Marie Gianni products are my current favourites.
♥
♥ What’s the one beauty treatment you can’t live without? And your favourite place to have it done?
Fresh vegetable juice daily! I also can’t live without an extremely pure cold pressed oil to moisturise with daily. I love olive oil, coconut oil and argan oil.
♥ Who do you trust with your hair in Perth, and why?
This question made me laugh because I am extremely low maintenance when it comes to hair and make up. I prefer to spend my money on fresh organic produce that makes my hair shine and my skin glow than dyes and treatments. But I do love a good hair cut too!
♥ Favourite budget / at home beauty treatment?
Argan oil or coconut oil! I love it massaged through my hair as a treatment, on my body as a moisturiser and as a make up remover. I also adore the Ayurvedic Facial Scrub in this range.
♥
♥ Your three, absolutely cannot live without, favourite products?
The Ayurvedic Facial Scrub, a long handled natural bristle dry body brush and cold pressed oils for moisturisers.
♥ Do you have any secret tips you use to keep looking / feeling great?
Many! I eat a really healthy diet, get plenty of pure water, drink fresh vegetable juice daily, move my body, nourish my mind and my emotions with practices that support them to be healthy, cleanse my colon, do work I am totally in love with, love and be playful all the time and nurture my relationships. These things keep me feeling incredible and looking my best.
♥ What beauty treatment/ wellbeing activity would you love to try but haven’t yet? (Due to time, money, scared etc!)
A hot stone massage! I’ve been wanting to try one of these for many years now but haven’t gotten there yet.
Ed: Check out our reviews of hot stone massages – one, two & three!
♥ Describe a typical day of eating for you.
Every day I drink at least 2 litres of pure water plus herbal teas. I drink a full litre or more of fresh vegetable juice (mostly green vegetables). I eat salad and smoothies every day and often I eat some lightly cooked veggies. I focus on lots of fresh vegetables, a small amount of fruit and tons of avocado – my love!
♥ Describe your fitness routine.
Currently I am running a free Strong Is Sexy Fitness Challenge and it’s so much fun! I love yoga, walking and rebounding, but I’m now also doing regular High Intensity Interval Training with Bodyrock TV workouts. Extremely challenging but great fun!
♥ Do you take part in any alternative therapies or take supplements? If so, discuss.
I take supplements as I feel they would be helpful. I almost always take a high quality probiotic and digestive enzymes but I believe in getting as much as you can from your food. Fresh vegetable juice is my main “supplement”.
I do colon cleansing regularly and enjoy acupuncture and massage occasionally. I also love using essential oils.
♥
♥ How do you like to relax? What are your favourite ways to de-stress?
Lots of things! I adore sitting in the sunshine with my juice and a great book and losing time in my own version of heaven. I love trail walking and hiking, beach walking, and getting out into Nature in any way I can. Yoga and meditation are also regular staples for me. Nothing beats laughing with friends and family and I also love to have a dance around the house and bust out a few moves that no one could ever call graceful ;).

Keeping the spark in life by living every moment!
♥ First up, briefly tell us a little bit about yourself!
Hi! I’m Hannah. I have an awesome day job as a Project Manager, and I moonlight as a Foodologist running my own business and blog, A Foodly Affair. I am passionate about mindful eating and about helping others to find their foodly philosophy – mostly through food coaching and uncooking classes. In between times, I love to write, read, sing, dream and spend time with the people who are important to me.
Cake of Soap – Goats Milk Soap
♥ Tell us about your daily beauty routine.
What is this thing you call a “daily beauty routine”…? I wash with either my own (edible) unsoap, or with a plain goats milk soap from Cake of Soap. Although I don’t cleanse or tone, I usually moisturise – with a basic shea or nut butter.
♥
♥ What’s the one beauty treatment you can’t live without? And your favourite place to have it done?
My unmissable beauty treatment is one that works from within: green juice. Rawfood Karen got me hooked. My favourite blend comprises kale, celery, apple, ginger, parsley, lemon & honey. It’s super easy to make, gives you a serious and immediate energy boost from the time it hits your lips, is great for your skin, and is a real tonic for your system.
♥ Who do you trust with your hair in Perth, and why?
For the last few months, no one. It’s an experiment in progress. When I’m not feeling experimental, it’s Element Aveda in Subi. All the staff there are fabulous and I appreciate the Aveda philosophy.
♥
♥ Favourite budget / at home beauty treatment?
Coconut oil. Raw, organic coconut oil on your face and body, in your smoothies, desserts and main meals. So incredibly excellent for you, inside and out.
♥ Your three, absolutely cannot live without, favourite products?
1. Pawpaw ointment
2. My scent – Flower, by Kenzo
3. Soy candles from PinkLoveTank
♥ Do you have any secret tips you use to keep looking / feeling great?
No secrets. I think everyone could eat more raw food, for the enzymes and energy. Whatever you do, enjoy it and be present with it. Nurture yourself with the best wholefoods you can get your hands on (organic and bio-dynamic where possible), drink plenty of water, have regular exercise and sunshine, breathe deeply, and trust in others & the universe.
♥ What beauty treatment/ wellbeing activity would you love to try but haven’t yet? (Due to time, money, scared etc!)
Acupuncture. Now, if only I can avert my aversion to needles…
Yummo! Chia porridge!
♥ Describe a typical day of eating for you.
On a weekday, I like to start the day with chia porridge – but I usually wake up too late and resort to making a chia smoothie for the road, which I drink from a jar at my first meeting. If you’re playing along at home, remember that blue (from blueberries) + green (from spirulina) = grey! It tastes great, but colleagues will wince and ban you from bringing homemade juices or smoothies into work ever again.
Snacks are a nut & superfood mix (eg. goji berries, macadamias, cacao nibs, coconut shavings, almonds, brazil nuts, sunflower seeds, cashews). My current vice is coffee, and I have a 2 per day habit. I also try to drink lots of water between meals.
Lunch is often a green smoothie or a raw burger from Club Zing.
Dinner starts with coconut water, a raw salad or a green juice, then a soup, pasta or curry – sometimes raw, sometimes not. I enjoy a glass or two of wine with dinner on most nights.
♥
♥ Describe your workout routine / how you keep fit?
Have you tried the 9 minute extreme cardio workout yet? I just about killed myself with it last week.
I am just getting back into whole body vibration (2-3 times/week) because I love what it does for my body shape and endocrine system. I run and practise yoga when I make the time. Oh, and I got hooked on surfing after just one lesson at David Wolfe’s Samudra Retreat earlier this year, so I am determined to make this my Winter sport.
♥ Do you take part in any alternative therapies or take supplements?
I use different therapies for different issues/energies. When I am low in energy, I’ll book in for a bioresonance session. I have also tried and enjoy reiki, theta healing, far infrared saunas, music, meditation and essential oils.
♥ How do you like to relax? What are your favourite ways to de-stress?
I love a good belly laugh with my little person – and I try to get out of mobile range as often as possible.
