1. Cheaper Strawberries & Oranges
There’s been an influx of these bright, summer reminiscent fruits in the shops lately and I for one am LOVING IT! I think strawberries were up around the $8-$9 mark for a while and I prefer to buy local oranges as opposed to ones that come from the USA, due to them being gassed prior to undertaking their travel!
Refreshing orange wedges, fresh strawberry smoothies & chopped fruit with natural yoghurt have been keeping me healthy & happy lately. HOORAY FOR SEASONAL EATING!!!
♥
2. Invisible Zinc.
Although I’ve long heard the hype about Invisible Zinc, it’s taken me until now to jump on board the ‘physical sunscreen’ band wagon. With total babes such as Elle Macpherson and Georgia May Jagger (Jerry Hall’s daughter) as spokesmodels, it’s no wonder that this brand is turning heads. Being a freckled lass means that I should have been sunscreening up on a daily basis. Emphasis on the should have. I’ve only recently been really making an effort to make sure I pop on some sunscreen before putting on my make-up.
Tales of my naughtiness aside, I am really enjoying the Invisible Zinc Environmental Skin Protector SPF30+. It feels great during and after application, lives up to it’s name of being invisible and has THREE (count em) ways in which it does our skin some serious favours:
♥ UVA + UVB protection. Physical sunscreen reflects these danger-rays, unlike chemical sunscreen (the regular stuff) which absorbs only UVB rays and then turns them into free radicals, which is less than ideal. So physical wins here!
♥ Pollution barrier! Stops city smog from interacting with your face, ESP forms a film over your face to protect you from these baddies which can contribute to aging.
♥ Packed full of antioxidants, which help to protect your skin cells pre & post sun exposure.
International model, Simone Kerr, also enjoys it – check out our interview with her here!
3. More Yoga!!!
The benefits I’ve experienced from yoga include: increased mental clarity and calm, less moodiness, increased flexibility, better sleep, clearer skin and a more toned tum. Despite all of these wonderful perks, I’ve been slack with making time to fit in into my schedule. UNTIL NOW! The past two weeks have seen yoga appearing twice in my 7 day routine and I’ve been loving it!
I would love to take part in a ‘yoga revolution’ which is one entire month of doing a yoga class, once a day. I think the benefits would be incredible, but I might have to start off with just a weeks worth first! š
♥
4. Dermalogica Conditioning Body Wash
I am adoring this, hard. I’ve previously talked about it in my birthday wellness weekend article, but wanted to declare my love once more. LOVE YOU BB, DON’T EVA LET ME GO <3. Ahem.
♥
5. Mukha Natural Yoga Mats – $80
I’ve had one of these for quite some time now, but kept forgetting to take it to class with me! Very silly, I know. The mats were dreamed up when Perth based yoga teacher, Lisa Gawned, was in the well loved downward dog position.
She realised that she was ‘grounding’ herself upon a PVC mat, a man-made material which is toxic to our health and the environment. And so Mukha Mats were born, made from 100% sustainably farmed natural rubber (the smell is very strong in the mat when you first get it, but soon dissipates), healthy for you and the environment. The mat is also completely biodegradable at the end of it’s life, which is pretty awesome.
I found the mat heavier than expected when I first started using it, but quickly got used to it and am now enjoying having my own personal eco-friendly mat in which to stretch and de-stress on. No fear of sharing sweat and bacteria with other people and the knowledge that it’s non-toxic and good for the earth? Double win.

♥ First up, briefly tell us a little bit about yourself!
Hi, my name is Jasmine and Iām a model with Scene Model Management. I am currently in my final year studying at school.
♥
♥ Tell us about your daily beauty routine.
I use a Clinique Rinse-Off Foaming Cleanser and 7 Day Scrub Cream and Become Day Cream.
During the day for make up, instead of using foundation, I use Pore Putty bb cream and face powder. Itās great because it gives heaps of coverage and makes your skin feel really soft, but looks like youāre not wearing anything at all. For blush I use Urban Decay glide-on cheek tint because they have some awesome colours. In my make up bag I also carry a Fred Farrugia transparent creme blush. I usually donāt wear any eye shadow and just use Sephora mascara.
♥
♥ What’s the one beauty treatment you can’t live without? And your favourite place to have it done?
I love a massage and reflexology, although Iāve only had it done in Bali on the beach as yet! Itās a great way to relax.
♥ Who do you trust with your hair in Perth, and why?
I donāt often cut my hair to be honest (its very long at the moment), but the last time I had it done was by Skatt in Claremont and I was very pleased.
♥
♥ Favourite budget / at home beauty treatment?
I sometimes use Bio Oil for dry skin treatment.
♥ Your three, absolutely cannot live without, favourite products?
My Frederic Fekkai shampoo and conditioner, and marocMaroc āOnguent dāArganā, it’s a nourishing body balm which is great for people who get really dry skin – like me. This is a new product that I have just discovered and thoroughly recommend it.
♥ Do you have any secret tips you use to keep looking / feeling great?
I donāt use too much make-up, unless Iām doing a shoot. Also, I try to get as much sleep as possible, exercise everyday and always use sunscreen to protect my skin. Drinking lots of water is beneficial too.
♥ What beauty treatment/ wellbeing activity would you love to try but haven’t yet? (Due to time, money, scared etc!)
A fish spa!!
♥ Describe a typical day of eating for you.
Rather than have cereal I like to start the morning with some fruit (sometimes with yoghurt) because I find itās really refreshing. Then for lunch I usually have tuna and salad. Dinner depends on what everyone in my family is having, but normally we have roast chicken, steak or soup.
♥ Describe your fitness routine.
Exercise and keeping fit is a really big part of my life. Even if Iām really busy I try to go walking for at least an hour and a half every day (about 8km) and on the weekends I do a lot of horse riding.
♥ Do you take part in any alternative therapies or take supplements? If so, discuss.
No I donāt take any supplements, I just try to keep a balanced and healthy diet, and eat sweet foods in moderation.
♥
♥ How do you like to relax? What are your favourite ways to de-stress?
When I want to relax I like to go to the movies. Its great to just sit down, chat with friends and enjoy some popcorn!

The latest influx of ādaily dealsā made available online to us beauty lovers can make you go a bit crazy. All those deals! All those bargains! You would be forgiven for thinking you were one of those guys on Wall Street standing in the pit in a brightly coloured jacket waving your arms around, yelling ābuyā and āsellā like a maniac, before regaining consciousness and wondering what the hell you had just bought.
But itās a good deal right? For a procedure that you know and that you like? So whereās the harm. I know what youāre thinking; calm down Adriane, why do you have to hate like that? OK, allow me to share a story. Letās call it āA Story of Cautionā.
Recently, thanks to one of those daily emails offering you deals on practically anything, I bought a voucher for IPL. I really like IPL and have had some great results from all four of the salons that I have been to beforeā¦well, before this time (see where Iām going here?) Yes.
Now, I would first and foremost like to say that I wont name where I went this time because I really do not believe it was entirely the technicianās fault and she was nice and I donāt want to be mean here. What I will say though is that the plain facts; she was a retired beautician working from home – evidently she had purchased a machine some years ago and was now treating people from there. A little alarm bell went off for me here, it made me feel uncomfortable that the machine was old and although sometimes the paperwork that you have to fill out in a normal salon is annoying it is also there to protect you and protect the business from any damage to either party that may occur as a result of a miscommunication. So when there was no paperwork, I was feeling apprehensive.
Not my burns, but an example of what can happen under a non-qualified technician.
Then the treatment started, Oh. Dear. Me. I had opted for my legs to be done and your legs are pretty tough so donāt any one of you start thinking Iām a big olā baby, ok? To say that it āhurtā would be an understatement. It KILLED. It hurt so much that half way through I wanted to say āactually you know what, donāt worry about itā. I was actually jolting after every time she administered the pulse of light. She was trying to have a conversation with me and I was trying to speak around the light pulses so that I didnāt sound like I was having an electric shock. Thatās harder than it sounds. So why did I let her finish? Because I am an A grade idiot. Because I thought that if I told her I was incredibly uncomfortable and in pain that she would think I was weak, or a complainer, or being difficult. I didnāt want to look stupid.
So fast forward to when I left her house. I got into my car and my skin felt like it was burning underneath my jeans, my hands were shaking (from some kind of shock maybe? Oh who knows) and I drove home, ran a cold bath and stuck my legs in there. What did I see? Burns all over my legs, burns burns burns. I looked like I had been run over by a tractor tyre. The pain subsided but the burns took three weeks to heal. Who looked stupid then (clue: ME)! Luckily I donāt have any scarring or pigmentation damage but why oh why did I not tell her that it was hurting? She couldāve turned down the intensity of the machine or done some other magical thing that would have made it feel like oh-I-donāt-know-Iāll-take-a-stab-in-the-dark-here my skin wasnāt burning.
My burns.
Most of all Iām angry at myself because I had this procedure before and experienced no pain (yeah I thought I was a pretty tough son of a gun after those times) and yet having the exact same thing done this time made me feel like I was being tortured for information. The moral of the story is: please, be careful. The deals are great, no question, but donāt let cheapness make your guard drop. Always speak up. If you are uncomfortable in ANY way, physical, psychologically, emotionally, tell the technician. Itās your money that is paying for their skill and their time so donāt be one of the guys in the Wall Street pit running around like a maniac, be the guy at the beginning who coolly and calmly gets to ring the big bell or something. Bad analogy, but you know what Iām saying- speak up. Donāt look like me. The tyre marks were not good. Be safe!

♥ First up, briefly tell us a little bit about yourself!
Iām a certified Life Coach, Detox and Health Coach, and my passion is helping you to live the life you want in a body you love. I use cellular cleansing and a holistic nutrition and lifestyle approach to create profound and lasting transformation in your health and life.
I educate and work with amazing clients all over the world through my one to one consultations, group coaching programs, motivational speaking, educational and food preparation classes, detox programs and two eBooks.
I live in Perth with my partner and feel so blessed to create and live my dream life every day. Oh, and I also like long walks on the beach š
♥ Tell us about your daily beauty routine.
My beauty routine mostly takes the form of ensuring I have excellent health on the inside. This is then reflected on the outside. I support my body to detoxify as best as it possibly can every single day. We have a lot to contend with in our world from pollution to stress to processed food and alcohol, so my first point of call for health and beauty is ensuring my body stays as clean as possible and that my body is able to eliminate toxins as efficiently as possible.
I eat clean whole foods, mostly raw and green. I drink fresh vegetable juice daily. I donāt eat all day so I am not constantly digesting and as a consequence having less energy for everything else. I move my body, meditate and get fresh air and sunshine almost every day. I also think healthy thoughts and aim to live with gratitude for everything in my life. In my opinion, this is so essential if you want to feel beautiful.
I also only ever use the purest beauty products I can find. These Ann Marie Gianni products are my current favourites.
♥
♥ What’s the one beauty treatment you can’t live without? And your favourite place to have it done?
Fresh vegetable juice daily! I also canāt live without an extremely pure cold pressed oil to moisturise with daily. I love olive oil, coconut oil and argan oil.
♥ Who do you trust with your hair in Perth, and why?
This question made me laugh because I am extremely low maintenance when it comes to hair and make up. I prefer to spend my money on fresh organic produce that makes my hair shine and my skin glow than dyes and treatments. But I do love a good hair cut too!
♥ Favourite budget / at home beauty treatment?
Argan oil or coconut oil! I love it massaged through my hair as a treatment, on my body as a moisturiser and as a make up remover. I also adore the Ayurvedic Facial Scrub in this range.
♥
♥ Your three, absolutely cannot live without, favourite products?
The Ayurvedic Facial Scrub, a long handled natural bristle dry body brush and cold pressed oils for moisturisers.
♥ Do you have any secret tips you use to keep looking / feeling great?
Many! I eat a really healthy diet, get plenty of pure water, drink fresh vegetable juice daily, move my body, nourish my mind and my emotions with practices that support them to be healthy, cleanse my colon, do work I am totally in love with, love and be playful all the time and nurture my relationships. These things keep me feeling incredible and looking my best.
♥ What beauty treatment/ wellbeing activity would you love to try but haven’t yet? (Due to time, money, scared etc!)
A hot stone massage! Iāve been wanting to try one of these for many years now but havenāt gotten there yet.
Ed: Check out our reviews of hot stone massages – one, two & three!
♥ Describe a typical day of eating for you.
Every day I drink at least 2 litres of pure water plus herbal teas. I drink a full litre or more of fresh vegetable juice (mostly green vegetables). I eat salad and smoothies every day and often I eat some lightly cooked veggies. I focus on lots of fresh vegetables, a small amount of fruit and tons of avocado ā my love!
♥ Describe your fitness routine.
Currently I am running a free Strong Is Sexy Fitness Challenge and itās so much fun! I love yoga, walking and rebounding, but Iām now also doing regular High Intensity Interval Training with Bodyrock TV workouts. Extremely challenging but great fun!
♥ Do you take part in any alternative therapies or take supplements? If so, discuss.
I take supplements as I feel they would be helpful. I almost always take a high quality probiotic and digestive enzymes but I believe in getting as much as you can from your food. Fresh vegetable juice is my main āsupplementā.
I do colon cleansing regularly and enjoy acupuncture and massage occasionally. I also love using essential oils.
♥
♥ How do you like to relax? What are your favourite ways to de-stress?
Lots of things! I adore sitting in the sunshine with my juice and a great book and losing time in my own version of heaven. I love trail walking and hiking, beach walking, and getting out into Nature in any way I can. Yoga and meditation are also regular staples for me. Nothing beats laughing with friends and family and I also love to have a dance around the house and bust out a few moves that no one could ever call graceful ;).

27! Flowers c/o my lovely boyfriend and the wrapped gift on the left is actually from Kikki K and called “Be Happy: 170 Ways to Transform Your Day”!
Alright so there is a photo of me on my birthday, I don’t post heaps of them up here because I am a bit shy about doing so.
It’s been a bit quiet here the past few days due to birthday preparation, so I wanted to share with you just what I’d been upto this past weekend of celebration – yep I dragged it out the whole three days to make the most of it! So come join me on a vaguely stalkerish account of my weekend … š
Friday
I kicked off the weekend wellness style with an incredibly relaxing bath which seriously felt like any worries were dissolved as soon as I sunk in. I have found the most incredible shower/bath wash which makes me feel like I’m at the day spa every morning and night. It is that good and a teeny tiny bit goes a long way, you’ll get tonnes of bubbles in the bath, and if you use a loofah a tiny pump gets you sudsy in seconds.
♥
The name of my new love is Dermalogica Conditioning Body Wash and its concoction of essential oils including sandalwood, lavender, lemon and eucalyptus manages to both soothe a weary mind and pep you up in the mornings too. It’s a pricey little peanut at $71.50 for a 473ml pump bottle, but if you have the bucks to spare this is incredible for giving you an easy peasy day spa experience whenever you hop in the shower!
After the dream bath, my boy took me to The Curry Tree in Nedlands for an indian feast, the food took a long time, but was yummy when it finally arrived. There was also a fireplace which was a dreamy addition on a chilly night.
Saturday
♥
Subiaco Farmers Markets ahoy! We did the usual rounds, saw a heap of pups (my favourite part!) and ate some treats.
Breakfast was an innnnncredible combo of muesli, warm stewed apple & natural yoghurt from Food Well Thought, for $5 this is an absolute must in my farmers market experience. TRY IT! You will be amazed.
My other favourite is the 100% organic and preservative free dried apple crisps from the Spring Valley Orchard in Donnybrook!! The crisps are $4 for a generous bag and are absolutely delicious, if you’re looking for a healthy, crunchy snack then seriously look no further. I hadn’t had these before and I’m definitely going back next week to stock up. They also sell a variety of non-dried apples which are equally delicious.

Next on the b’day agenda was some time with a girlfriend and fellow Wellness WA writer. We hit up Boubar and they kindly let me have an item from the breakfast menu even though it was way past brekky (avocado, tomato, rocket and fetta on sourdough – YUMM) – WINNERS! This, along with a freshly squeezed OJ, a few choice pressies from my friend and some great chats made for the perfect afternoon.
For dinner I rounded up some more friends and headed to Lotus Vegetarian Restaurant in Northbridge, the satay “chicken” sticks (mock meat) with rice have been my long time favourite and it’s all I ever order. If you’re a vegetarian and haven’t been here try it out! The service can be bizarre at times, but it’s cheap and delicious!
Prior to the feast we all headed to the EP launch of local band Mezzanine, which one of my besties plays in, and it was a great night!
Sunday
One of my fav places for brekky lately has been The Pearfect Pantry in Wembley, who have been making some waves recently with promoting their oddly situated little cafe via social media. It’s worth a look, as they have MANY vegan options for brekky and lunch, as well as vegan biscuits & cupcakes at times too! Meat and cheese lovers are not to fear though, as there is a wide selection of other goodies to choose from too.
I had the vegan black bean, avocado and cashew-nut cheese with fired whole wheat tortilla (SO SO SO SO SO GOOD)!
To round off the weekend I had a picnic and invited a bunch of good friends, the food was delicious, the sun shone for a bit and there were two adorable doggies present. Dreamy.
So that’s my weekend š I hope you had a fabulous one too, and I would love to hear about any wellness activities you got up to if you’d like to share!!!
Be well,
Annette
