Beauty Salon Review: Tafe Beauty Skincare Clinic, Mt Lawley.

Beauty school dropout…♥

There is nothing I love more than beauty treatments. Now, I don’t mean the unfortunate necessities of waxing, I’m talking about facials, pedicures, manicures, massage… the fun stuff! Treatments that make you feel amazing as well as look good.

The only problem is, they are pricey. When an average facial or treatment these days is around $70 – $150 it’s no wonder I have blocked pores, unkempt feet and problem cuticles!

But gather round girls (and boys!)… What if I told you a deluxe 90 minute facial cost only $40? Or a deluxe pedicure $35? How about a two hour pampering package for only $60?

Welcome to Central Tafe’s Beauty Therapy Skincare Clinic. A place for students to perfect their technique and gain practice to complete their qualifications.

After a week of frivolous spending, and in need of a little pampering I decided to give the Tafe beauty clinic a go. In the waiting room, I was asked to fill out a form outlining any medications I was on, what my current concerns with my skin are, current skin care regime etc. I saw some ladies come out and re-book straight away. One lady, who must be a regular, booked manicure & pedicure sessions for the next three months!

Now this is a no frills premises. Located in the Mount Lawley campus, the clinic is a large room, shared by all, separated by room dividers. There are change rooms to undress if needed and you are provided with a robe.

I had a deluxe Dermalogica facial which lasted around an hour. Even though there were other people in the room, everyone was super quiet, and so I didn’t find it hard to relax. The student I had was excellent. She explained everything, including all the products she was using and why, and what was about to happen. She used Dermalogica products on me – so you know they are being taught with good products.

Dermalogica Facial Mapping.

I had a crème cleanser, a facial steaming procedure, a mask and a neck, shoulder and hand massage. The student I got said she was very interested in remedial massage and it showed. She had a very firm technique which was great. When she massaged my face it was obviously lighter – but perhaps a touch too firm for the face area.

All in all my experience was great and I wouldn’t hesitate to go back. When I went to reception to pay it was filled with people re booking. So my advice is get in quick, as this clinic books up weeks in advance.

The Beauty Therapy Skin Care Clinic is located at the Mt Lawley Campus on the corner Lord and Harold Streets, Mt Lawley, in Room W202 (upstairs, West Wing).

The Clinic is open Friday 10:30am – 3:30pm and Saturday 9:30am – 12:00pm during term time only.

WA VIP Card Launch = Extravagant Weekend!

Saturday night saw the launch of the WA VIP Card at The George in the CBD.

Wellness WA is working hand in hand with the card, we are in charge of getting all of the excellent beauty, health & wellbeing businesses on board the card so that they can provide a discount to our members! E-mail beauty@wavipcard.com.au for more information if you are interested! Also, mention Wellness WA if you purchase a card and it will help us all out!

So back to the night in question, with nothing to wear I had to run out and pick up a new dress (Cue!) and heels which set me back a bit. And then the make-up and hair, oh dear!

I picked up some Bloom nailpolish in 2 shades: Amber & Edie ($29.95 for two)

“Amber”

This is the one I chose for the evening, the Bloom polish has really stayed on my nails and I’m impressed with the consistency and look of it. There is also a BAJILLION colours to select from, so I do recommend you check em out in Myer!

Post-shopping I ventured over to my monthly massage @ Cove Spa to unwind but I had a dilemma… shonky eyebrows! This just wouldn’t do for the evening ahead so I asked / pleaded nicely and the girls accommodated me easily and I had a tidy up before the massage, which was lovely as usual. Yay!

Then it was time to sort out a wash & blow dry for my dirty, messy hair (charming, I know). I tried 3 places before actually getting in somewhere, Saturday afternoon is big for hair appointments – who knew?! Well, I probably should have!

I wasn’t 100% impressed with the service I received at the particular salon, the woman was very off with the fairies and didn’t seem to be paying that much attention to what she was doing. However it WAS late in the day, they were very busy and I was lucky to actually get an appointment… plus the result turned out okay so I dealt with it, but try not to get myself into a situation where I’d have to go there again!

After that it was time to nap & then get ready. The night was lovely and we drank champagne with strawberries and blueberries to up the “Wellness Factor” ;), watched Bob Evans rock out a little and had prom photos taken!

Today is porridge, watermelon & green tea for breakfast & a yoga class Tonight to help work out the weekends alcoholic sins.

How was your weekend?! Any beauty treats? I’d love to hear about it!

Be well,

xoxo

Restaurant Review: Grill’d, Mount Lawley.

Grill’d

Ancient sediment. It’s what you have probably been living under if you’re unaware that there are ALL OUT BURGER WARZ taking place nightly in various hip suburbs throughout Perth.

Burger joints, all vying for a piece of your sandwich lovin’ dollar, are popping up everywhere, all trying to be the next tastiest thing and I’ve taken it upon myself to review the various vegetarian options they’re sporting. Hard life, hard life.

I had experienced a small sample of Grill’d joy on a trip to Melbourne long-ago, their claims of 100% vegan burger patties filled my heart with joy & jealousy at the time.

Namely because I knew such forward-thinking food outlets would never come to Perth. Pout. Internal frustration. Vague thoughts of moving to Melbourne. Deal with it.

NOT SO PERTHIES, NOT SO. Grill’d now exists smack-bang in Mt Lawley (next to Astor / Gelare). Winners.

So, Garden Goodness Burger:

Ingredients: Premium quality veggie pattie (vegan), beetroot, tasty cheese, avocado, salad, relish & herbed mayo.

The wholemeal bun thrills me, the pattie tastes a little smoky in the most delicious of ways and the beetroot adds a tiny bit of messy sweetness to the whole ordeal. The star of the show, however is the holy herbed mayo.

This stuff is INSANELY tasty and I’m not much of a mayo girl. If you order the chips, bypass the relish & go straight for the herbed mayo dipping sauce, you wont regret.

Overall, the burger is magnificent. So much so, that I literally ordered it THREE TIMES last week when I live about 35-40 minutes drive from Mount Lawley, so that’s serious business or addiction on my end.

I am rating it 4.5 / 5. It loses half a point due to my own fussiness, gourmet lettuce leaves aren’t my thing so I always eradicate them from my burger.

Dear Grill’d,

Exist South of the River in Perth and you’ve got yourself a guaranteed minimum earning of $11.50 per week. But it will probably be more like $80 per week, because I am just that keen on your Garden Goodness.

Anyone that wants to be my bestie can send me Grill’d gift vouchers (they have those!) in the mail. Go on!

Love,

Smitten by the Goodness-of-Gardens:

Annette

Spa Review: Pedicure at Serendipity Medi Spa, Riverton Forum.

My feet were feeling very neglected and my little toes were screaming for some attention from all those times strutting in high heels on uneven pavement in the city, gallivanting around Europe and dancing til 5am in the clubs.

Well it was time my feet deserved a treat. After all, I’ve been told many guys have a foot fetish… but that wasn’t the sole reason why I wanted to go for my very first pedicure. (or maybe it was) (no, it really wasn’t) (or was it?)

I wanted my feet to feel confident in a pair of open toed sandals for the next up-and-coming social calendar event!

The location of choice, Serendipity Medi Spa in Riverton Forum.

I stepped into the salon and to my surprise it was a beauty therapist friend of mine who was going to get intimate with my feet that night! I decided upon booking an evening session as there is one thing I dislike about communal pedicure places: the crowds.

At every opportunity when getting a beauty treatment, I enjoy the peaceful “me” time that comes with it. So to my delight, I was seated in a massaging chair with plenty of space all to myself.

While I was catching up on the latest celebrity gossip, my feet were soaking in the warm bubble bath and as I felt the tiny jets on my feet, I was in my happy place. The beauty therapist handed me a basket full of polish colours to choose from. I opted for a french manicure to suit any occasion.

I took my feet out of the water and they were gently massaged with a light exfoliating foot scrub. At this point I should note that the therapist is wearing gloves. Then she removed my old nail polish and trimmed each toe nail with a square edge. Rotating each foot back into the bubble bath when it wasn’t being pedicured. After some more buffing and gentle scrubbing, my pushed-back cuticles revealed toes that were painted on with precision and care.

Voila! After 45 mins of a Goddess experience, I had the perfect ready-to-party nails all set for an upcoming balmy cruise down the river!

Tip: If you can’t pick a colour, a french manicure is always a safe bet, but keep your eye out for the colours that are on trend at the moment which include pinks (instead of your usual vampy red) and taupes.

Zoe Foster Tip: After hearing her extensive knowledge on fashion, a tip is to bring your fave colour to the pedicure place so that when it chips, you can always fix it up at home yourself.

Rating: 4/5 Since my feet were long over-due for a pedicure, I was indeed fascinated by the whole process, and how I had never thought to have one earlier! The service here is without fault and the evening booking was ideal.

$60 will get you the basic pedicure.

PRIMPED Lookbook Event: GOODIE BAG DISSECTION!!!

Wow wow wow. As promised, here is my discussion/dissection of the uh-maze-ink goodie bag that we received @ the PRIMPED/Zoe Foster/David Jones Lookbook event and as you can see, the bags cup runneth over!

This baby literally felt like I was carrying a bag of bricks around due to the extremely generous sizing and number of products involved.

So without further dilly-dallying I will chat about them with you!

Miranda Kerr “KORA” Organic Rich Body Lotion (RRP $44.95) – We received a full-size tube of this and were told it’s Miranda’s favourite, I was blown away! Had been wanting to try this for a while as I think she is gorge and I like her philosophy as she is hugely into yoga (like me!) + the KORA products are all organic and good for us. Delicious on the skin after a shower and before bed, I woke up with very soft skin.

David Jones Ultra Shine Lip Gloss in Pomegranate (price unknown) – this one is a HIGH favourite! The colour is divine, a deep pinky-red & the smell gives juicy tubes a run for their money. The colour stays around for ages and the gloss is nice & sticky, but not toooooo sticky. If this one is anything to go by the other colours will be awesome as well. My new fave.

Kosmea Travel Pack (price unknown) – complete with their famous 5 minute facial muslin cloth, this kit came with a hydrating rosewater mist, cleanser & SPF moisturiser. Very chuffed with this one also. ESPECIALLY THE CLOTH which I’ve been wanting to try for years due to rave reviews.

Hissy Fit Gift Kit (GWP) – some cute samples of sun protecting lip balm & moisturisers, and just adore the name!

Rimmel Mineral Foundation, Sexy Curves Mascara & Eyeshadow Compact (price unknown) – love the purple tube that the Sexy Curves comes in but have yet to try, however the wand looks a little like a sex toy / torture device so I’ll have to venture carefully…! I don’t think the other two products will suit my pale skin unfortunately so one of my friends is going to get lucky.

Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs ($29.95) – This one is a no-go for me! The product gets good reviews on the Vogue Forums, however I received the darkest shade & am a few freckles away from being an albino. For kicks I sprayed some on my legs and the resulting dark brown streak sealed it’s fate as a hand-me-down to a bronzed friend.

We also received the following items: OJON shampoo & conditioner, Miss Dior Cherie, Natio Glow, A’kin Moisturiser , OPI top coat, Revlon Plum Attraction Nailpolish, YSL mini mascara & Touche Eclat, Dermalogica samples, Endota Spa hand cream & nail file, Terax samples, Napoleon Perdis samples, PRIORI samples, Ultraceuticals samples, Burts Bees Lip Balm, Gucci perfume, Modelco Liplights, Abahna shower gel, Sally Hansen lip extreme, Dr. Hauschka Rose Day Cream & a living nature cleanser.

WHEW. So as you can see, spoiled doesn’t even begin to cover it.

I’ve just popped on some of the Kosmea SPF lotion and am going to spend some time reading Zoe’s book “Playing the Field” in the sun. It’s a great Sunday afternoon, over & out 🙂

Be well,

xoxo
