New Product Range: Super by Dr. Nicholas Perricone!

You may have heard of super foods and a whole series of diets based around the fact that if you put these foods into your body then you are going to be better off. This is all well documented. BUT, what if you put these foods not into, but ON your body?

HMM-MM I JUST BLEW YOUR MIND A LITTLE DIDN’T I?

Probably not. In fact the idea of using super foods in skincare sounds like a good idea right? YES! In any case, enough of these questions to myself, because Dr. Nicholas Perricone has just created SUPER, a collection of products for the face and body, using super foods such as red algae, yoghurt, melon, acai berries and apples (among others) as the key ingredients.

Why super foods? The idea is that these foods contain an incredibly high amount of antioxidants and fight inflammation (which Perricone has linked to aging) as well as hydrating your skin and generally keeping it in good nick. These products look great, they smell very natural, they are affordable and they are the realization of a combination of science and nature that truly makes sense.

Wind!

On a personal note I found what makes this range stand out head and shoulders from the rest is that is has been created specifically with women under 30 in mind – the gentleness yet effectiveness of the anti aging component of the line is perfect. And on a more general note, the company’s manifesto in regards to sustainability is inspiring. All the packaging is made from recycled goods, the company does not test on animals, and they are a carbon neutral organization and, the coolest thing of all, The SUPER factory in America is completely powered by wind. COOLEST – get it? Because of the WIND!?

Yeah.

Check this line out at Kit right now. And if you are reading this and you happen to know me guess what you are getting for your next birthday/Christmas presents for the next five years? Sorry to ruin the surprise but these guys are good all over.

Beauty Battle Royale: Rodial Glamoxy Snake Mask VS Ella Bache Hydra-Revitalising Repair Balm.

I guess this isn’t really a battle per se, I called it that for the sake of being dramatic – which is something I aim to do daily. The fact of the matter is, both masks set out to do entirely different things, so the best way to compare and contrast in this instance, is to break this right on down for you.

WHAT DO YOU NEED?

If you’ve got dry, problematic skin that’s suffering from not enough attention or too much exposure to things that are drying it out and making you look a little haggard you want to go for the Ella Bache. It’s thick, it’s creamy and it’s dreamy. Added to this you can just focus on the areas of dryness by only placing the mask on those spots (which is great news if you have combination skin and don’t want to contribute to oiliness). Think of it as an intense moisturizer.

OR

If your skin is as clogged as the shops at Christmas, then you want to cover your face in some Rodial and quite literally draw out and then peel away those impurities that are causing your pores to block.

Pore strip!

Remember those strips you used to put over your nose to remove blackheads (above)? It works just like that, and is super effective, not only helping to remove dirt and excess sebum but contributing to making the surface of your skin feel and look clearer. See my picture below to get the idea of how it works (and how massively fun it is, you can tell by the expression on my face, right guys?)

TIME: For those that don’t have all the time in the world the Ella Bache Hydra-Revitalizing Repair Balm is great for you because you put it on and let it soak in – no rinsing required and you can use as little or as much as you like. 10 minutes tops.

OR

If you’ve got a bit more time up your sleeve, you should get friendly with the Rodial Glamoxy Snake Mask. The black gel that you put all over your face needs to completely dry to get the maximum benefit. 20 minutes total.

FINALLY– if you were mid mask and the doorbell rang do you want to answer it like this

Or this?

*This picture was just of me with what looked like moisturizer on my face pulling stupid faces. Suffice to say, you couldn’t see anything. You could answer the door embarrassment free.*

My pick? The Rodial just because my skin requires things drawn out of it these days, for those of you that need moisture and elasticity put back into it, you have to get yourself down to the Ella Bache counter today.

And the winner (for me) is…

The Rodial Glamoxy Snake Mask, for getting rid o’ gunk!

Product Review: Rodial Glamtox Cleanser and Rodial Glam Balm 2-in-1!

♥ Snakey Skincare ♥

I like to think of Rodial as being the new kids on the block. Although starting up in 1999 surely means that by now they are no rookies, still, Rodial is new to my life. I’ve tried a couple of their products so far, and although their sometimes unusual ingredients have come under a bit of scrutiny here and elsewhere I’m sure, I have really enjoyed them. So I’m adding two more to the pile.

Rodial Glamtox Cleanser – $80

Number one (the first I tried and the one I preferred) Rodial’s Glamtox Cleanser. At first when I read that this product had lightening agents in it I thought ‘OH NO please if I was any paler I would disappear’ but, as you can probably imagine a. I am a bit dramatic and b. it doesn’t exactly work like that. I really loved this cleanser because it was thick, had a great smell, removed make up easily and guess what- after using it everyday for two weeks I noticed discolourations and marks that had been on my face for a while now start to lighten and fade. That’s the first time I have ever seen that happen! Thank you lightening and brightening agents. All round a really lovely hard working little cleanser.

Rodial Glam Balm – $100

Number two was the Rodial Glam Balm 2 in 1 lip and wrinkle plumper. By definition it is ‘2 in 1’ but I found that this balm was really versatile and could really be called ’HEAPS in 1’.

It can be used as an anti ageing treatment for the face, lips, neck and hands and I found I started using it on small cuts or small areas of dry skin as well as to keep my lips hydrated. It’s the perfect size to carry around with you in your bag and isn’t greasy or sticky, so if you hate that gluey feeling of some lip-glosses or lip balms this is right up your alley. I didn’t feel the plumping effect but the condition of the skin on my lips became softer and smoother- actually any skin I put it on became softer and smoother and just generally better looking and feeling.

I am also very much looking forward to using it as in-flight mask because the moisturizing quality of this product really gives me confidence that using it will help side step that dried out, crackly feeling your skin gets when you fly (and I live in Western Australia so going anywhere on a plane is always a long trip). An ideal multi-purpose purchase.

Product Review: It’s a Kiehl’s Mega Party!

♥ Ain’t no party like a Kiehl’s club party! ♥

Kiehl’s. Since 1851. EIGTHTEEN FIFTY ONE. These guys have got looking after your face down to a fine art. So how are they helping the modern gal quash her skincare concerns? Let’s find out…

Kiehl’s Supremely Gentle Eye Makeup Remover – $36

I have a very real fear of getting things in my eye that will burn excessively, but recently I was involved with a project that meant I had to wear a lot of heavy eye makeup 6 nights a week and I knew that I was going to have to do something, nay USE something, to get it off. So I tried Kiehl’s Supremely Gentle Eye Makeup Remover with much hesitation and told those around me that if it hurt I would hurl the bottle out the nearest window with the intensity of a thousand suns.

Of course, my dear logical reader, there was no hurling. The lightweight formula doesn’t smell, doesn’t sting, doesn’t burn, doesn’t HURT. It seems completely free of the things that would lead to causing irritation in the eye or the delicate skin around the eye. Now you might be wondering with all this delicacy and cucumber and apricot kernel oil – does it actually work? You bet your eyes it does. A little on a tissue or cotton ball completely removes the make up from your eyelids and eye lashes. And in my case eyebrows as well (I told you it was HEAVY makeup).

I’m in ur makeup cupboard, testin ur productz.

And for those contact lens wearers – completely safe for you too. You can rest assured knowing its Ophthalmologist tested (see image above). This product easily does the job without causing any discomfort or pain.

Kiehl’s Epidermal Re-Texturizing Micro-Dermabrasion – $84.

This no pain, max results thing seems to be a reoccurring theme with the Kiehl’s crew, because I am in full-blown love with Kiehl’s Epidermal Re-Texturizing Micro-Dermabrasion. It’s a super duper exfoliator that you have complete control over. Squeeze out a small ‘nickel sized’ amount and apply it to your clean, damp skin in circular motions. Wait – if feels too rough! Then just go easier! Wait – I’ve had enough! Then just stop! See? You ARE in control. My skin felt cleaner, clearer, smoother and better without any makeup on it, which for me is always the benchmark of a product doing its job superbly.

I guess I really lost sight of how important exfoliation is after a bad Micro Dermabrasion experience at a salon. But not getting rid of the dead skin cells, product build up and other things that get in the way of good skin can contribute to bad skin no matter how much you cleanse it. I’m sorry I have neglected exfoliating my face for the past couple of years but it is back and boy oh boy it is great.

Kiehls’ Double Strength Wrinkle Filler (Available on Kiehl’s counters)

And finally we have the Kiehls’ Double Strength Wrinkle Filler, espousing to fill those wrinkles and lines you may wish weren’t there. Now, I’m a long way off from what is maybe the desired clientele of this product BUT I’m a smile-y kind of person, and continually creasing my face in the same place in the same way is starting to show.

Did this instantly fill my lines? No. Did it improve the condition of my skin in terms of elasticity and how moisturized and smooth it felt? Absolutely yes. Would I keep using it? Yes again. Because better skin condition of those areas that do get a work out (facially speaking) will surely lead to a reduced appearance of fine lines. And short of invasively having them filled with something from the inside, I think taking care of the outside is a smarter, safer and much more enjoyable bet. Good one Kiehls.

New Cult Product: OPI Black Shatter, Limited Edition.

I recently bought a nail polish from a petrol station. The colour was ‘gelati’, I thought it looked ‘fun’ and ‘striking’ so I bought it, got it home, painted away and within about 4 hours it was starting to chip off and by the end of the next day … gone completely. Moral of the story: don’t buy nail polish from a petrol station no matter how ‘striking’ or ‘fun’ you think it might be.

Now if I had used my common sense (woah Adriane, not so fast!) and actually thought about this most impulsive of all buys I would’ve realized my folly. Alas, I did not. In fact the words I used to describe my old mate gelati would best be saved for OPI’s new nail polish out on the market, Black Shatter. Now as the name suggests my gelati and OPI’s Black Shatter are both going to give you a cracked, ‘shattered’ finish on your nails…the difference being gelati’s is unintentional.

The effect of Black Shatter over nail polishes in the ‘Katy Perry for OPI’ range

With OPI’s Black Shatter you simply paint a thin layer of the black varnish over whatever colour your nails happen to be painted and then THROUGH THE MAGICAL PROPERTIES OF NAIL POLISH, watch the black coat shatter and crack as it dries revealing your original nail varnish colour poking through to say hello. And the best news? You obviously get to choose what colour is underneath so you can make the look as individual as you like. Will little bits of nail polish flake off? No you goose, stop thinking ‘cheap, flaky nail polish’ and start thinking ‘cool nail polish effect’. But I guess you could apply a top coat if you were really worried about it.

Still confused? It’s kind of like when as a kid you took a piece of paper, crayoned the whole thing in a bunch of different colours and then coloured black over the top of all that and then took a tooth pick and drew a picture of your family. YEP EXACTLY THE SAME AND JUST AS GOOD (minus the need for a toothpick).

If you want a striking and fun look why not give this a go. OPI are the reference point when it comes to nail polish so you could say they have this pretty well down pat, and my senses tell me that this Black Shatter of theirs is going to be a hit.

Ms. Perry gets her nail on.

Ed’s note: Creates a leopard print look in the blink of an eye, two parts sassy to one part pretty – it’s no wonder K-Perry is the muse for this unique little number!

Available online at Adore Beauty or your best bet to get this seriously limited edition gem in stores will probably be David Jones.

Review by Adriane Daff, not afraid to buy cosmetics at petrol stations. Winner.
